Chapter 0 - Spirit Roots Rankings and Mutations

In the world of cultivation, a cultivator's spirit roots form the foundation of their potential and power. Spirit roots come in various levels and types, which determine how quickly one can gather spiritual energy and what elemental powers they can wield. The hierarchy of spirit roots is as follows:

Spirit Root Levels:

1. Low-Level Spirit Roots:

• The weakest category. Cultivators with low-level roots have slower cultivation speed and limited power potential. In most families, those with low-level roots are looked down upon.

2. Mid-Level Spirit Roots:

• More common among average cultivators. These roots allow for decent cultivation speed and power, but they are rarely enough to achieve greatness.

3. High-Level Spirit Roots:

• Cultivators with high-level roots are highly regarded. These roots allow for faster spiritual energy absorption and more potent techniques. Many clan prodigies possess high-level roots.

4. Saint-Level Spirit Roots:

• Exceptionally rare. Saint-level roots grant unparalleled cultivation speed and power potential, making cultivators who possess them almost certain to become great leaders or powerful experts.

5. Deity-Level Spirit Roots:

• Practically unheard of. Deity-level roots are the stuff of legends, rumored to allow a cultivator to transcend human limitations entirely. These roots are considered blessings from the heavens.

Spirit Root Types:

• Main Elements:

1. Fire

2. Water

3. Earth

4. Air

5. Metal

These are the foundational elements of the world. Cultivators possessing spirit roots of these elements can control them, summoning fire, moving water, manipulating earth, or shaping metal.

• Mutated Elements:

1. Ice (A fusion of Water and Air)

2. Lightning (A mutation of Air and Fire)

3. Nature (An offshoot of Earth)

4. Wind (An advanced form of Air)

5. Blood (A forbidden element, considered taboo due to its dark applications)

Mutated elements are stronger than their main-element counterparts. For example, a low-level ice spirit root is stronger than a low-level water spirit root. However, mutated elements are rare, and those who possess them are often feared or revered.

Dual and Multiple Spirit Roots:

In exceedingly rare cases, a person may be born with dual or even multiple elemental spirit roots. The combination of different elements makes these cultivators immensely powerful. For instance, someone with both fire and water spirit roots can create steam or boiling water attacks. However, this gift comes with significant challenges, as balancing multiple elements in cultivation is incredibly difficult.

Raiden's Unique Case:

Raiden's spirit roots are an anomaly. He was born with five mutated spirit roots—one for each of the mutated elements. This would normally make him extraordinarily powerful, but his roots fused into one unknown type of spirit root. Because of this, his power lies dormant, misunderstood by others who dismiss him as weak. His true potential is far beyond anything the world has seen, but it remains hidden until he can unlock it using his ancient cultivation technique.
