We turned from the Core, Ember and I, its brightness dwindling into lesser brilliance as we stepped out of the beating heart of the System. It felt different - the air was different - and I knew that something within me had repositioned, in some way connecting me to the world outside. Every life form around in this forest felt like one huge, gentle hum beneath my heartbeat. I knew in that moment that the System's mark had altered me and bestowed on me a tremendous yet awful awareness.
A new message, again in front of my eyes, when we again stepped into the familiar dark areas.
