Chapter 25: Outside The Box
"Tell me, Lucius, what should we do now?" asked Voldemort. "Our month-long plan has been thwarted, and I need that prophecy."
"My Lord," replied Lucius Malfoy helplessly.
After what happened in the graveyard, Voldemort wanted to hear the rest of the prophecy. He still had no understanding of why those dead people emerged from his wand in the form of illusions. Even though there was no one else on Potter's side, Harry still managed to escape from his grasp.
Then Severus brought big news 'Dumbledore had been keeping Harry Potter isolated.' From what Severus learned, Dumbledore believed that Harry could sometimes see visions of Voldemort. This was because of some kind of magical connection between them, and Dumbledore didn't want Voldemort to use that connection to spy on the Order's secret missions.
For an entire month, they avoided contacting Harry and left him alone at 4 Privet Drive. Curious, Voldemort dived deeper into his Occlumency practice and discovered a sort of window that hadn't appeared before.
He attempted to peek through the window but encountered a barrier preventing him. Voldemort suspected that crossing it would be dangerous. Instead of risking crossing the barrier, he decided to send a false memory to Harry. He conjured the fake memory and sent it to enter the window, it go without any trouble and he believed his magic was a success.
After that, Voldemort received another report from Severus. Harry Potter had sent a letter to Dumbledore regarding his scar. The boy had felt pain on his scar and saw a vision which he believed came from Voldemort.
Now, Voldemort realized he could no longer use Sirius as a hostage and would need someone else for the plan.
"Do you have an answer?" Voldemort asked again.
"No, my Lord," Lucius replied, clearly shaken, knowing full well that Voldemort was truly angry.
"Then just change this... I need you..." Voldemort said, before revealing his new plan to Lucius.
Fidelius Charm....
"So, where's your home, Sirius?" Dudley asked.
"It's in..." Sirius started but then paused.
They waited, but Sirius remained silent.
Harry, noticing Sirius's hesitation, asked, "Where is it, Sirius?"
"It's in..." Sirius tried again but couldn't say 12 Grimmauld Place.
"Aha! I get it—it's under the Fidelius Charm, right?" Dudley asked for confirmation.
Sirius, looking a bit embarrassed and frustrated, replied, "I'm sorry, I forgot the house is under the Fidelius Charm, and Dumbledore is the Secret Keeper."
"I don't think Dumbledore will let us visit," Dudley remarked.
"Why? It's my home!" Sirius tried again but couldn't say Grimmauld Place.
"Because Madam Amelia and Susan are with us," Dudley explained. "I believe Dumbledore might be cautious about that."
"So, does that mean we're not included?" Susan suddenly cut in.
"No, we'll celebrate together," Sirius replied firmly.
"Don't worry, Mr. Black. We hope you'll be happy," Amelia Bones added with a smile.
"You're a Marauder, right?" Dudley asked, shifting the mood.
"Why?" Sirius looked at him, curious.
"How about we do it Marauder Style?" Dudley grinned mischievously.
Harry, Susan, and Amelia exchanged confused looks, while Sirius suddenly grinned widely.
"Alright, we'll do it Marauder Style!" Sirius said enthusiastically. "But how?"
He wanted to prank the Order members but quickly recalled that there was no way to bypass the Fidelius Charm without the Secret Keeper revealing the address—that's why it was used to hide from Voldemort in the first place.
"There are two ways," Dudley said confidently. Both Sirius and Amelia looked at him, intrigued. They had never heard of the Fidelius Charm being bypassed before.
Dudley remembered how Corban Yaxley had managed to enter 12 Grimmauld Place despite the Fidelius Charm—by using the Floo Network. Even though the house was protected by the charm, once inside the Floo Channel, they could bypass the barrier. But Dudley had another theory for how to get around it.
"My first theory," Dudley began, "Is that if Sirius walks into the house while holding our hands, even if we can't see the house, we'd still be there and can enter the house. So, this might work."
"The second theory," Dudley continued, "Is to call Kreacher and have him Apparate us into the house while holding our hands."
"So, what do you think of my theory?" Dudley asked.
Sirius was dumbfounded. Theoretically, they could indeed enter the house, but he had never considered that the Fidelius Charm might have such a weakness. Even Amelia was impressed by Dudley's thinking, having never known that there might be a way to bypass the Fidelius Charm.
Harry and Susan thought it was an excellent idea, though they didn't know much about Fidelius magic, so they weren't as amazed as Sirius and Amelia.
"It's a good theory," Sirius agreed.
"Yes, it's definitely possible. We'll need to test it," Amelia added, still impressed.
"Sirius, try calling your house-elf," Dudley suggested.
"Kreacher!" Sirius called.
Pop!
"Bastard master calls Kreacher again," grumbled the house-elf, clearly disgruntled.
Sirius clenched his fists in anger at Kreacher's attitude.
"I'm sorry about my house-elf," Sirius apologized to the group.
"Kreacher, we need you to Apparate us to the House of Black," Dudley said firmly.
"Who is this filthy Mudblood daring to order Kreacher? If Mistress Walburga knew Kreacher was speaking to a Mudblood..." Kreacher trailed off angrily.
Sirius, enraged, moved to hit Kreacher, but Dudley stopped him.
"Let it go, Sirius. We need to test if the theory works. This time, you ask him," Dudley suggested.
"Kreacher, can you Apparate directly into the house?" Sirius asked through gritted teeth.
"Of course Kreacher can do it. Why does the bastard master want to know?" Kreacher replied, confused.
"Can you Apparate someone else into the house?" Sirius asked again.
"Kreacher can only Apparate those with Black blood running through their veins," Kreacher answered. "I cannot bring Mudbloods and filthy half-bloods into the house."
It all made sense now. The House of Black, being an old pure-blood family, must have wards in place to prevent outsiders from entering.
"So, option two is invalid," Dudley concluded. "Looks like we'll have to try option one."
