Chapter 4 - LOVE IN DISGUISE

Alex's frustration simmered as he walked into his father's office.

"Father, I need to talk to you," Alex said, his voice firm.

Reginald Grey looked up from his papers. "What is it, Alex?"

"The Wilson account," Alex began. "I know you want me to secure it, but I'm starting to question your motives."

Reginald's expression turned cold. "My motives are simple: to expand our business empire."

"But at what cost?" Alex pressed. "I'm starting to feel like I'm using Emily for her connections."

Reginald scoffed. "That's business, Alex. You need to toughen up."

Alex's anger flared. "I won't compromise my integrity for your ambitions."

Reginald's eyes narrowed. "You're just like your mother – weak."

Alex's fists clenched. "That's enough."

As he stormed out of the office, Alex knew he needed a distraction.

He texted Emily. "Want to meet at the art gallery?"

Emily agreed, and Alex picked her up.

As they walked through the gallery, Emily's eyes sparkled.

"I love art," she said. "It's my escape."

Alex smiled. "I had no idea

As Alex watched Emily paint, he felt his defenses crumbling.

"Emily, can I ask you something?" Alex said, his voice low.

"Of course," Emily replied, her brush strokes faltering.

"What happened with your ex-fiancé?" Alex asked.

Emily's eyes clouded. "Jack. He cheated on me."

Alex's jaw clenched. "I'm sorry."

Emily's voice barely above a whisper. "It was more than that. He used me for my family's connections."

Alex's eyes widened. "Your family's connections?"

Emily nodded. "My father's a wealthy businessman. Jack wanted to merge our families' companies."

Alex's mind reeled. Emily's family dynamics were complicated.

Just then, Emily's phone rang.

"Hey, Dad," Emily said.

Alex watched as Emily's expression changed.

"What do you mean, Dad? You're considering a merger with Grey Industries?" Emily's voice rose.

Alex's heart sank.

Emily's eyes locked onto his. "Dad, I need to go."

As Emily hung up, her face was pale.

"Alex, I need to tell you something," Emily said.

"What is it?" Alex asked.

"My father's considering a merger with your family's company."

Alex's world tilted.

His father's ambitions.

Emily's family dynamics.

Their relationship.

Emily's revelation hung in the air like a challenge.

"A merger?" Alex repeated, his mind racing.

Emily nodded. "My father's considering it."

Alex's thoughts turned calculating. His father's ambitions.

"Emily, I need to ask you something," Alex said.

"What is it?" Emily replied.

"Does your father know about us?" Alex asked.

Emily's eyes faltered. "No."

Alex's jaw clenched. "Why not?"

Emily's voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't want him to use you."

Alex's eyes narrowed. "Use me?"

Emily nodded. "For the merger."

The room seemed to shrink.

Alex's phone buzzed, breaking the tension.

A text from his father.

"Alex, the merger is crucial. Secure Emily's cooperation."

Alex's anger flared.

"Emily, I need to tell you something," Alex said.

"What is it?" Emily replied.

"My father's been using me too."

Emily's eyes widened.

"For the merger?" Emily asked.

Alex nodded.

The silence between them grew.

"Emily, I think we're pawns in a bigger game," Alex said.

Emily's voice barely above a whisper. "What do we do?"

As they stood there, the doorbell rang.

Emily's eyes locked onto Alex. "That's my father
