Chapter 25 – A Familiar Encounter
The Seireitei was alive with tension. Spiritual pressures clashed and flared in the distance as battles unfolded across its expanse. Nanami Kento, now walking alone, sensed the brewing storm within the Seireitei's labyrinthine corridors. After parting ways with Captain Hitsugaya and Rangiku, his calm demeanor remained, but his senses sharpened as a sudden spike in spiritual pressure pierced through the air.
This particular pressure felt chaotic, raw, and full of excitement—undoubtedly Captain Zaraki. But what intrigued Nanami more was the unfamiliar yet fiery energy battling against it. It didn't take long for him to deduce its source: Ichigo Kurosaki.
---
Moving swiftly, Nanami used Shunpo to navigate through the Seireitei and soon arrived at a rooftop overlooking the clash. Zaraki Kenpachi and Ichigo Kurosaki were locked in combat below, their battle shaking the ground with every blow. Nanami, staying out of sight, crouched to observe.
Before he could analyze the situation further, a cheerful and familiar voice rang out.
"Na-chan!"
Nanami froze for a moment, the memory of that nickname surfacing in his mind. 'So much for staying discreet.'
Looking to his side, he saw Yachiru Kusajishi bounding toward him, her bright pink hair and mischievous grin unmistakable. She landed gracefully on the rooftop next to him, tilting her head with an impish smile.

Flash back
It had been a quiet day in the Seireitei when Nanami, after completing his patrol, decided to indulge in a rare treat—buying sweets from a shop in Rukongai. As he was heading back to the 10th Division barracks, a small, curious figure appeared beside him, sniffing the air.
"What's that smell?" Yachiru had asked, her wide eyes locked onto the bag of sweets Nanami carried.
Nanami, slightly startled but composed, glanced down at her. "Sweets," he replied simply.
Yachiru's curiosity turned to visible excitement as she practically salivated. "Sweets? What kind?"
Realizing she wouldn't leave him alone until her curiosity was satisfied, Nanami handed her a small bag of the treats. Yachiru's face lit up like a child's on a holiday morning.
"Thanks... what is your name?" Yachiru asked
Then Nanami replied "I am Nanami Kento, third seated officer of the 10 division"
Yachiru then stayed quite for a bit and then says "Thanks, Na-chan" she chirped, darting off before he could correct the nickname.
From that day on, Yachiru greeted him with the same nickname whenever their paths crossed.

Back to the Present
"Yachiru," Nanami said with a small nod, his tone calm as always.
She peered down at the battle below, her grin widening. "You're here to watch Kenny fight, huh? Isn't he amazing?"
Nanami's gaze shifted back to the battle. "He's… formidable," he replied, carefully choosing his words.
Yachiru plopped down next to him, swinging her legs playfully over the edge of the roof. "Kenny's having so much fun! That Ichigo guy is tough, too. I think Kenny likes him!"
Nanami glanced at her. "Is that so?"
"Yup!" she chirped, then looked at Nanami more closely. "But what about you, Na-chan? You're always so serious. Don't you like fighting?"
Nanami considered her question for a moment. "I prefer to fight only when necessary," he said.
Yachiru tilted her head. "Hmm, boring. You should spar with Kenny sometime! I bet it'd be fun!"
The corner of Nanami's mouth twitched slightly—almost a smile. "I think Captain Zaraki and I have very different definitions of fun."
---
As the battle raged below, Nanami continued to observe quietly. Ichigo's fierce determination was evident, as was Zaraki's wild, unrestrained power. Their clashing spiritual pressures filled the air like a thunderstorm, drawing the attention of nearby Shinigami.
Yachiru suddenly stood up, her small frame brimming with energy. "I'm gonna go back to Kenny now! Bye, Na-chan!"
Before Nanami could respond, she vanished, her giggles echoing in the distance.
Nanami sighed softly. "So much for staying low-profile."
---
As he prepared to leave, Nanami lingered for a moment longer, his gaze fixed on Ichigo. 'So, this is the substitute Shinigami who will alter the course of everything.'
With a final glance at the ongoing battle, Nanami stepped back from the rooftop and disappeared with Shunpo. For now, he would remain in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to act.
