Chapter 2 - CHAPTER TWO:CONTRACTUAL FOCUS

Ivana stepped into her apartment, the silence a welcome respite from the evening's tension. Her dinner with Keal Vanderbilt still lingered in her mind, but she pushed the thoughts aside.

As she changed into comfortable clothes, when Ivana remember Leo, her ex-boyfriend, smiled back, his eyes seeming to bore into her soul. Memories flooded her mind.

Their whirlwind romance had been intoxicating, but Leo's possessiveness and manipulation had suffocated her. The pain he inflicted still lingered.

Ivana recalled the countless times Leo had controlled her, dictating what she wore, who she spoke to and what she thought. His jealousy had been suffocating.

Their breakup had left scars, but Ivana had rebuilt herself, stronger and wiser.

Now, as she recalled her past relationship with Leo, Ivana realized why Keal Vanderbilt unsettled her. His charisma and intensity echoed Leo's, awakening fears she thought were long buried.

Determined to shield herself, Ivana steeled her resolve. She would focus on the contract, nothing more.

"Professional distance," Ivana whispered to herself.

The phone buzzed, breaking the spell. A text from Rachel, her assistant:

"Contract revisions from Vanderbilt Industries arrived. Shall I review?"

Ivana's mind refocused. "Yes, please. I'll examine them tomorrow."

With renewed purpose, Ivana pushed aside thoughts of Keal and Leo, immersing herself in work .

The morning light streaming through the windows illuminated the tension in Keal's face. Sofia lay beside him, a triumphant smile on her lips.

"Good morning, darling," Sofia whispered, her voice husky.

Keal's expression remained guarded. "Sofia, we need to talk."

Sofia's smile faltered. "What's wrong, Keal?"

"Us," Keal said, his voice measured. "This... arrangement. It's suffocating me."

Sofia's eyes narrowed. "You're still thinking about her, aren't you?"

"Who?" Keal feigned innocence.

"Don't lie to me, Keal!" Sofia's voice rose. "Ivana Smith. You want her."

Keal's silence confirmed Sofia's suspicions.

"You'll never have her, Keal," Sofia spat. "She's a fleeting infatuation. I'm your reality."

As Sofia's words hung in the air, Keal realized his true feelings.

Ivana dove into the contract revisions, her mind sharpened by determination. She scrutinized each clause, ensuring Smith Enterprises' interests were protected.

Rachel entered with a fresh cup of coffee. "Morning, Ivana. Thoughts on the revisions?"

"Generally favorable," Ivana replied. "But I want to renegotiate Section 5.3. Their liability terms are too vague."

Rachel nodded. "I'll schedule a call with Vanderbilt's lawyers."

As they worked, Ivana's focus never wavered. The contract was her priority.

Meanwhile, Keal Vanderbilt's thoughts lingered on Ivana. Their dinner conversation had sparked curiosity, and he craved more.

Elias briefed Keal on the day's schedule. "Sofia's requested a meeting. Shall I accommodate her?"

Keal's expression turned guarded. "NO. Keep me updated on our contract negotiations with Smith Enterprises."

Elias nodded, unaware of Keal's growing fascination with Ivana.

Later, Keal stood at his office window, lost in thought. Ivana's poise and intelligence haunted him.

"Keal, your meeting with Sofia awaits," Elias announced.

Keal turned, his mask of composure firmly in place. "No,I'm not."

As he entered the meeting room, Sofia's piercing gaze awaited.

Keal entered the meeting room, "his expression is neutral, but his anger is evident."

Sofia's presence was imposing, her eyes flashing with a mix of curiosity and suspicion.

"Sofia, what's this about?" Keal asked, taking a seat.

"I'm just here to check on you " Sofia said, her voice measured.

"This partnership with Smith Enterprises... it's rushed, Keal."

Keal leaned back in his chair.

Sofia's gaze narrowed. "I'm concerned about you."

Keal raised an eyebrow.

Sofia's voiced in disgust . "You're distracted. I know that bitch is trying to get your attention."

Keal's mask slipped for a moment before he regained composure. "You're paranoid, Sofia."

Sofia's smile was icy. "Perhaps. But

"If you even look at her, I swear I'll make sure you regret it".

Meanwhile, Ivana focused on the contract negotiations, oblivious to Sofia's growing unease.

Rachel entered with an update. "Vanderbilt's lawyers agreed to revise Section 5.3."

Ivana nodded. "Progress. Let's keep the momentum."

As Ivana worked, a subtle sense of security settled in. She was regaining control.

Sofia's words lingered in Keal's mind, a warning bell tolling. He knew she wouldn't relent.

Meanwhile, Ivana received an update from Rachel: "Vanderbilt's revised contract should arrive today."

Ivana's focus sharpened. "Review and compare. I want to ensure our interests are secure."

As Rachel worked, Ivana's thoughts drifted to Keal. His intensity fascinated her, but she refused to indulge.

The phone rang, breaking her reverie.

"Smith Enterprises, Ivana speaking," she answered.

"Hello, Ivana. Keal Vanderbilt. Our contract revisions are ready," Keal said, his voice low.

Ivana's professionalism faltered for a moment. "Excellent. I'll review them promptly."

"Would you like to discuss in person?" Keal asked.

Ivana hesitated before responding. "Not necessary. Email is sufficient."

As they concluded the call, Ivana sensed Keal's hidden agenda. But she wouldn't be swayed.

Ivana reviewed the final contract, ensuring every detail favored Smith Enterprises. Satisfied, she prepared for the signing.

Rachel entered with a folder. "The Vanderbilt Industries team awaits, Ivana."

Ivana stood, smoothing her dress. "Let's conclude this."

In the conference room, Keal Vanderbilt and his lawyers waited. Ivana maintained professionalism, ignoring Keal's piercing gaze.

The contract signing proceeded without a hitch. Ivana and Keal exchanged courteous smiles, their handshake brief.

"Congratulations, Ivana. Our partnership will thrive," Keal said.

Ivana's response was polite. "Indeed, Keal. Mutual success is assured."

As the Vanderbilt team departed, Ivana felt relief wash over her. The contract was signed, securing Smith Enterprises' future.

That evening, Ivana met Beatrice, her best friend, at a trendy café.

"Girls' night out, this weekend?" Beatrice asked, sipping her cocktail.

Ivana grinned. "Clubbing sounds perfect. I need the distraction."

Beatrice raised an eyebrow. "Distraction from what?"

Ivana waved her hand dismissively. "Work stress. Nothing more."

Beatrice nodded, intrigued but not pressing.

The neon lights flickered like restless fireflies, casting vibrant hues across the packed dance floor. The bass thumped in sync with the pounding of Ivana's heart as she pushed through the throng of bodies, her friends trailing behind her. The air was thick with the scent of sweat and excitement, a heady mix that made her pulse race.

As they reached the bar, Ivana asked for two drink, both girls laughing and drinking . Her stomach twisted. She looked so carefree, so at ease. She forced a smile, but it felt brittle on her lips.

"I'll be right back," Beatrice said to her friends, her voice barely audible over the pulsating music.

Navigating through the crowd, Ava felt a surge of determination, she approached the center of the club.

"The club lights flashed over her dancing form, casting long shadows that concealed the figure watching her from the darkness."

Main while a figure at the corner of the club was watching her closely, moving towards her direction.

"As she stood before him, a shiver ran down her spine, her mind racing with the haunting thought."
