Chapter 24 - Afraid It Might Scare Him to Death

Mu Yunlie's eyes held an indecipherable emotion as he looked at Yan Qianyi's bright, shining eyes.

Finally, he released her hand.

"Fine."

After all, divorce wasn't an option right now.

He was rather curious to see what exactly she intended to do.

"You agree?" Yan Qianyi rubbed her wrist, which still ached from his grip, a little annoyed. "Aren't you afraid I might kill you?"

Who would've thought—besides being a germaphobe, this guy also had paranoia!

What had he gone through to be so deeply distrustful of others?

Thinking of the strange poison coursing through his body, Yan Qianyi's irritation dissipated.

She even started to feel a bit sorry for him.

A body riddled with ailments—how pitiful.

"You don't have the capability," Mu Yunlie said dismissively.

"As a weak and delicate woman, I don't even dare to slaughter a chicken, much less kill a person," Yan Qianyi's lips curved slightly, her smile innocent and harmless.

If she showed her true abilities, she might just scare him to death.

But in front of him, she'd have to keep a low profile to avoid any unnecessary trouble.

Just then, Xiao Ke chimed in.

"Master, Master, your father has sent you a voice message."

The smile on Yan Qianyi's face froze.

A call at this hour—did Han Yarong come up with yet another scheme against her?

Yan Qianyi pulled out her earpiece, ready to put it on, when Mu Yunlie spoke, "Put it on speaker. If we're to collaborate, we should be transparent with each other."

"Fine." Yan Qianyi put the earpiece away and told Xiao Ke, "Answer the call."

After all, the Yan family's messy affairs weren't exactly something that needed to be kept secret.

From the bracelet came Yan Hong's voice, "Sweetheart, are you out on a date with Mu Yunlie?"

Yan Qianyi replied, "Yes, what is it?"

Yan Hong said, "Why not strike while the iron's hot? Bring him over tonight so we can meet him."

Yan Qianyi said, "It's already late. Maybe another day."

Yan Hong insisted, "It's not late at all—it's only just gotten dark. You're already married, so sooner or later, you'll have to bring him to meet us. Besides, your grandmother is here. She's been eager to meet him ever since she heard about the marriage. We haven't had dinner yet; we'll wait for you both."

Grandmother's here?

Yan Qianyi frowned.

Her grandmother had always disapproved of her mother, and consequently, had always treated her coldly as well.

Now they were suddenly so eager to have her back for dinner—this was bound to be a trap.

Yan Qianyi paced a few steps away and said, "No, he's busy tonight."

She had just reached an agreement with Mu Yunlie, and given his current wariness of her, there was no way he'd agree to go home with her.

Mu Yunlie didn't follow her, but suddenly, a chill ran through his body, and he felt a wave of weakness.

"You insolent girl!" From the other end came her grandmother's scolding, accompanied by the sound of a hand slamming on a table. "How dare you marry someone without consulting your family first? Do you have no sense of propriety? Bring him back immediately so I can see him!"

Fearless in almost all things, Yan Qianyi was most terrified of her grandmother.

In her memory, her grandmother's face had always been cold and stern—never once had she smiled at her.

Her marriage to Qu Yang had been arranged by her grandmother.

Not only that, her grandmother was very fond of Qu Yang and had often declared that no one but him would be her granddaughter's husband.

Every time she had tried to break off the engagement after a fight with Qu Yang, her grandmother would side with him and berate her.

Yan Qianyi was pondering how to refuse her grandmother when suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

"Wife, it's so dark…"
