Chapter 2 - The arranged wedding

Chapter Two

Amelia's POV

I took in deep breaths and I could hear my wolf silently whispering soothing words to me to help me calm down. I had imagined my stepfather getting rid of me like he always said whenever he was mad at me for no reason.

As I stood there, I didn't realize my stepfather was walking up to me as I tried to regulate my breathing before I passed out. "I don't want you to disgrace me today so be as good as you can." His cold voice said from behind me before he held out his arm for me to take.

His voice suddenly coming made me flinch and he looked at me with slight irritation in his expression. "Stop fidgeting and focus now." He thundered angrily and I hurriedly gathered myself as I wrapped my arm around his with a slight sigh.

The hall went quiet for a while before the doors were pushed open. It was supposed to be the best day for a woman, but it was the opposite for me. It was the worst. I had no friends here to support me and everyone seated in there were just strangers.

I had no bridesmaid, no maid of honor. Even if I asked anyone to be, they'd be too scared of Anna and all the rumors she had been spreading about me.

And of course, no one would want to associate with the one who could kill them if the enemies attacked like they all blamed me for my mother's death in the rogue attack.

As we stepped into the hall, the whole scene was magical. Although I wasn't marrying the man of my dreams, at least I had the venue setting of my dreams.

It was all white with lavender flowers hanging from the ceiling. I tried to hold back my tears so I won't ruin my makeup. I didn't want them to think I was crying because of this marriage but I secretly wished my mother was here to witness this day even though I wasn't getting married to the man I loved.

She would have been so glad to watch me walk down the aisle to my so-called husband. Even if she would be going against this man. Of course, this only happens once in the life of a woman, or maybe some of them.

I didn't even have the heart to love anyone. Bryan who has been trying to win me over knew it was a very hard task.

The aisle was covered with white rugs with lavenders on each side. My wedding dress flowed beautifully on the rug as I took a step. The scent of lavender became stronger and I could already tell this was no longer from the flowers.

The scent of lavender was strong accompanied by a woodsy scent that almost swept me off my feet. I looked up in the direction the scent was coming up and I could see a man dressed in a black expensive-looking tuxedo. His back was turned to me but I knew the scent was coming very strongly from him and I was curious to know what he looked like.

Like he could hear my thoughts, he turned to look at me and I couldn't lie, he was the most handsome man I've ever set my eyes on. His black hair was neatly combed to the back of his head and his cold look did not switch slightly.

As we stepped closer to the altar, I felt a weird connection to him. I didn't know what the connection was exactly but it wasn't just any type of connection. It felt very special. If it was a mate bond, I knew my wolf would have reacted to it but she didn't. She was strangely calm the whole time as I stopped at the end of the stairs.

He walked down a couple of stairs and took me from my father. I felt like his gaze was piercing my soul as I looked at him from behind my veil. I extended my arm, wrapping it around his as he led me up to the stairs where the pack priest was standing.

As the priest spoke and I stood before him, I used the opportunity to peek at him and check him out. He was very much taller than I was and would be around 6'5 ft tall and I was just 5'2. He was very muscular which made his tuxedo strain against his muscles.

I could see a tattoo peeking out his chest with the first button of his white shirt loose. I looked back up at his hair and it looked so soft and I itched to run my fingers through it badly.

His jaw was chiseled and he looked like a demigod as his eyes were focused on something behind me. I wanted to know what it was but I couldn't turn. I just kept my gaze on him.

Like me, he didn't have lots of people with him. He only had this man who was definitely like his beta standing there looking at us with a straight face.

I didn't know who my groom was but I knew he was a respected man from his aura and posture. He carried himself with so much prestige but at the same time, I wondered why he agreed to marry me of all people.

"Why do I feel so connected to him?" I heard my wolf's voice coming out in a gentle whisper. "I am feeling this strange connection to his wolf."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her, trying to keep my physical attention in check since we were both conversing in my head.

"He is not our mate but I feel connected to him." My wolf said. She had never said she was connected to anyone. She hated being out of her safe zone no matter how much I tried to push her out of it.

"Connected in what sense?" I asked her and she went silent for a few minutes. "Amy?" I called my wolf and she finally spoke up again.

"I have a feeling like he is my mate but I don't see any mate bond." She finally said and I looked up at him with curiosity, not even paying any attention to what the priest said until I heard a very familiar name come from the priest's lips. It was the name every woman wanted to know the mystery behind by climbing into his bed and at the same time they all feared him more than death.

"Do you, Alpha Kayden, accept Lady Amelia Gael as your truly wedded wife and Luna?" The priest asked and my whole body trembled under the veil.

Alpha Kayden was the most ruthless alpha in all packs and no one wanted to have anything to do with him. What was my father thinking to plan my marriage with someone like him? Does he want me dead before the written day of my death?

Rumors had it that he never willingly had any woman and those who forced themselves on him end up dead in his bed. No one could question him about it because they feared death from questioning his authority.

Was that the man I am marrying to give an heir? Would I even be able to get into his bed to make him the heir?

"I do." His cold voice resounded in the hall which made shivers run down my spine.

"Do you, Amelia Gael, daughter of Alpha Gael, accept Alpha Kayden as your rightful husband and alpha?" The priest asked and I wanted to scream out no immediately he asked me but I was hesitant. I also wanted to say yes from the bottom of my heart.

I didn't know what getting married to him would bring to me. If it would be so much worse than my father's way of treating me.

I looked over at my stepfather who had this indifferent expression on and Anna clinging to her husband with a sly smirk. She was glad I was getting married to the forbidden man who everyone feared, while she was in a marriage in which she had her man wrapped around her fingers.

"I…" I hesitated before letting out the breath I didn't know I was holding. "I do."

I wasn't surprised my stepfather was selling me off to the most cruel alpha for whatever reason it was that they'd drafted together. He was always evil right from the start. I don't know the type of treatment I'll encounter in his pack but I knew I should be ready for it.

"With the power granted upon me, I pronounce you two husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." The priest said and Kayden took a step closer to me before she slowly started to pull off the veil covering my face.

His blue eyes seemed like they were piercing into me as he removed the veil covering my face. He slowly cupped my face in his hand and as he leaned closer, I felt everything go slowly. Everything around me seemed to fade and he intentionally took his time before finally kissing me.

As his lips touched mine, I felt the fire erupt within me.
