Chapter 7 - Demonic Sect, A Hidden Talent

[You passed out as the man continued to fly. His speed was too fast for you to keep awake.]

[By the time that you woke up it was already morning once more. You could see the light of the sun shining into the small wooden hut that you were in. Standing up from the cot that you were sleeping in, you began to walk to the door of the hut.]

[Opening the door, you were frozen in place. In front of you was a giant mountain range. As for the hut that you were sleeping in, it seemed to be in the middle of one such mountain. Across the mountain range, you could see several buildings.]

[Near the base of the mountains were thousands upon thousands of buildings. Some were shops and some were houses. There were training grounds and restaurants. A city larger than any you had ever seen covered the base of several mountains. You could only imagine how many people lived there.]

[As you looked further up the mountains, the buildings that you saw grew fewer and fewer. At the same time, the buildings that you did see were large and luxurious. Compared to the villa that you grew up in, these buildings were far more beautiful and precious.]

[As you were taking in the scene, a figure appeared behind you. Seeing that you didn't notice them, they walked up behind you and grabbed your shoulder.]

[Startled, you turned around. Upon seeing that the figure was the old man that you attempted to rob, you knelt to the ground and began to plead for his forgiveness.]

[The old man smiled a toothless smile and told you not to worry. Telling you that: "If I were angry, I would have killed you back in that small country town."]

[Indeed, after thinking about it, the senior's words made sense. Still, you could not think of what reason he brought you here. When you asked, the senior looked into the mountain range in the distance and began to tell you about it.]

[The mountain range is called the Atlas Celestial Expanse. The mountain range was named after the tallest peak, Atlas peak, as it seemed to hold up the weight of the Heavens.]

[As for the force that controlled the Atlas Celestial Expanse, it was the Consuming Sect.]

[The senior told you about the history of the sect, but what captured most of your attention was the fact that it was a Demonic Sect. It was a term that you had never heard before.]

Aron thought back to all of his studies on cultivation and couldn't think of any mention of what a Demonic Sect would be. In fact, the only mention of any kind of Sect was found briefly in a centuries old diary he had found in the library.

The diary only talked about one Sect, though it never mentioned its name, and talked about the Sect's involvement in the Olsen Empire.

According to the diary, the founder of the Olsen Imperial family, Pero Olsen, was an Elder of the sect and was tasked by the Sect with founding and maintaining an Empire within their territory. The goal of the Empire was to control the presence of Demonic Beasts and ensure the lives of the mortals in their territory remained peaceful.

The diary mentioned that the Olsen Empire was only one of hundreds of such Empires under the control of the unnamed Sect.

"So, would this Consuming Sect be like the unnamed Sect? Do they also control a large territory with their own league of Empires and Kingdoms governing the mortals? I suppose I can only rely on the simulation to provide such answers."

[According to the senior, the Consuming Sect was one of the 6 major forces within the Northern Region. It was one of the two Demonic Sects. The other four were divided between three Orthodox Sects and one Professional Sect.]

[The Demonic Sects were in opposition to the other four sects. From the perspective of outside forces, what the Demonic Sects did was evil. Demonic cultivators, however, only believed that they were doing what was necessary to challenge the Heavens. Something that all cultivators do, whether they like to admit it or not.]

[The senior continued to tell you about the Consuming Sect. He was an Inner Elder of the Sect, and he had reached the Peak of the Soul-Body realm. According to the Elder, this was the norm for Inner Elders, of which there were thousands. After Inner Elders were Core Elders, Peak Masters/Supreme Elders, Sect and Vice-Sect Leader, and the Ancestor. The Senior did not tell you what cultivation these individuals may be at.]

Aron was laying on his bed with his mouth gaping open. The senior that he had tried to rob was in the Soul-Body realm. That was the same realm as his father, and his father was considered to be one of the four most powerful in the Empire. Even more, the senior had reached the peak level, whereas his father had only reached the peak of the initial level.

The truly shocking part: the senior was only one of thousands in the Consuming Sect that had reached the peak of the Soul-Body realm.

To have such power, Aron could not understand why they had not taken over the entire territory of the other Sects that the senior had talked about.

The only thing that could explain that was that every other Sect also had such power.

At such thoughts, Aron's mind seemed to go blank. He had only reached the starting layers of cultivation. Such forces seemed to dwarf him.

[Finally, the Elder got to the reason that he brought you to his Sect.]

[As an Inner Elder, he is often tasked with finding potential disciples for the Sect. Even if he were to return without finding a new disciple for the Sect he wouldn't be punished, so normally he takes the task as a vacation. A manner in which to observe the mortal world. This time, however, he found you.]

[Normally, he would have killed anyone trying to rob him. When he saw that you had developed a Seed of Resentment in your heart, he decided that taking you back to his Sect and taking you as a disciple would be for the best. He would receive a reward for bringing back a promising disciple, and you would be placed in an environment that could help you grow.]

[Not knowing what a Seed of Resentment was, you tried to ask. The senior quickly dismissed your question, telling you that it was something that you need to advance after the Soul-Body realm. While it would be extremely beneficial in the long run, as for now, you wouldn't be able to use any of the Seeds abilities until you grew stronger. Thus, he told you to forget about it.]

[He paused for a minute, allowing you to comprehend all the information he had told you. Upon seeing you begin to understand, he asked if you would be willing to take him as a master. You agreed and immediately knelt down to bow to him. After gesturing for you to stand, he handed you a book. It was the Sects main cultivation method: All Consuming Method.]

[The method gave some information on what the purpose of the method was, as well as how to control your Essence to maximize the effects of cultivation. There were also two techniques within. The first was Core Consumption. Core Consumption allowed for a cultivator to consume and absorb the Core of any cultivator after their death. For you with a Minor Core, it would take the consumption of 100 Minor Cores to upgrade to the next level, Lesser Core.]

[Furthermore, it would take 50 Lesser Cores to upgrade the Minor Core. 20 Middle Cores, 10 Greater Cores, 1 Major Core, could also be used to upgrade the Minor Core.]

[At your level, if you were able to get a Peak Core, you could immediately jump to the Middle Core.]

[Reading this, a glint flashed through your eyes. You had been sent running out of your family home because of the level of your core. Now you learn that there is a method to increase your core. Your Master, seeing that glint, smiled. It seems he approves of your mental condition.]

[You continued to read about the Core Consumption method before moving onto the second technique in the book: The Blood Essence Consumption.]

[While the previous method was used to increase one's talent, this method was used to increase the cultivation level. Whether it was cultivators, demon beasts, or even mortals, every living being held blood, and in that blood was the Essence of the world. This cultivation method required the consumption of the blood of living beings where the cultivator would then refine it to access the Essence was in.]

[As you finished reading, you looked at your Master in gratitude and bowed. You finally understood what he had said about the Demonic Sect and Demonic cultivators simply doing what they need to excel. As long as one put in the effort, even if they were born with the lowest level of talent, they would be able to go as far, or even further than, cultivators of Orthodox methods.]

[Your Master said that it was nothing. He was just happy to have a disciple that was full of potential. You ask if it's because of your Seed of Resentment that you have potential and he nods. He explains, however, saying that "The potential is more than just being able to reach past Soul-Body. As a Seed of Resentment, you will be able to comprehend what Resentment means every time you practice these methods. Whether it's cultivators, demon beasts, or mortals. Not a lot of Seeds have that ability, only about a dozen."]

Aron had been reading through the simulation with excitement for some time. The simulation up until now had been largely emotional to him, but seeing that things have begun to turn positive Aron was looking forward to what was to come.

The methods that were described in the simulation seemed to be very promising in providing him with a future that could be very beneficial.

"This simulation has given me more information than any of my lessons have in months now. I can only hope that it continues longer. I want to see how much further I can go."

[After the first day that your master introduced you to the sect, you took your time to tour the entire Consuming Sect. It took a few days, but eventually you had seen all of the most important spots. From there, you returned to the hut that you had woken up in on the first day. Your master said that it was now yours, and he would return to his own Cultivation Abode.]

[At the hut, you began to practice your normal cultivation. You wanted to reach the peak of the Essence Refinement realm before going out to try and increase your talent. You had a feeling that breaking through to the next major realm would be extremely difficult without a higher talent.]

[Along with practicing your normal cultivation, you also asked your master for a few fighting techniques. Up to this point, you had not had a single offensive technique. You also thought that it would be time to get an upper or peak White movement technique and replace your current one.]

[You knew that if you wanted to pursue the path of Demonic cultivation, you would have to equip yourself with the right tools for engaging in intense battles. The only way to evolve your core was to fight, after all.]

[Soon, five years passed by. At the age of 18, you had reached the very pinnacle of the Essence Refinement realm. Over the course of the past five years, you also practiced the three new techniques that your master gave you.]

[The offensive technique you received was Blood Talon Blade. It needed the blood of the cultivator to reach its full potential, but even without it, as an upper White talent it was quite powerful. It relied on swift movements to slowly slash and degrade an opponent over time. After five years, you had reached the Minor Achievement. Not an excellent level, but it would still be beneficial in your pursuit of cultivation, for now.]

[The defensive technique you received was the Blood Sphere Shield. Much like the Blood Talon Blade, this technique requires blood in order to reach its full potential. Without blood, the defensive technique is just an Essence shield. Nothing too impressive. The good thing about the technique is that it does not require the cultivator's blood specifically. It could be anybody's. You only reached the First Step mastery for this technique.]

[The final technique that you mastered passed to you was a movement technique, something you knew you had immense talent in. The Field Snake Movement technique was a lower level Black technique. All Black technique dwarfed White techniques, so you were immediately grateful to your master. This technique focused on the snake's ability to move extremely fast in an evasive and unpredictable manner. Your mastery in five years: Major Achievement. Though it took you twice as long, you reached the same mastery in this technique as you had in the Butterfly Evasive Movement.]

[Now, after five years, you were ready to head down the mountain and begin your journey to improve your talent and prove that the Perch family was wrong about you.]
