9th of June.
"So you really are going out with the prince? I wonder what people would say when they see him with someone unworthy like you" granny said jokingly.
"I never never been profiled and maltreated the way I have been these couple of days, funny how people only respect the position you hold and not you. Because if I came here as the Princess of Ida I can swear on my life those guards yesterday would have helped me grab the water"
"Indeed"
"Oh yes, before I forget. Granny I want to see the history books, the one grandpa gave me" Ever since we came to he palace, I have not seen them and it is getting to a week I want to know that at least they are safe.
"Okay, let me get it for you then" grandma got up from the desk where she was seated and walked to the closet.
"Who do you think would help us translate the book? Should we ask Adekunle? Can we trust him with our people's heritage?" These questions have been eating me up from the inside and I finally got the courage to ask granny about it.
Adekunle is a nice, caring and charismatic person, but still I can't just trust him without any proof right?
"He has a thing for you, of course you can"
"A thing?"
"Come on now, don't tell me you haven't noticed all these years. The way he looks at you, Danie don't tell me you've never noticed"
"Noticed?" All what she was saying was gibirish to me, he has a thing for me? The way he always looks at me? What? No!
"Here you go" granny finally brought out the books raped in a leather.
"We are just friends granny, friends!" Adekunle and I have known each other since dipper days, although we aren't close due to distance and many other reasons but we do enjoy each other company anytime we have the chance to.
"Okay then, I hope your friend feels the same way" she said handing over the leather to me.
"Thank you" I went back to my seat to open what she had just gave me, but why does it feel a bit lighter?
"I am sure he does" I answered granny, she was just trying to get into my head and I am not letting her.
"Well when your friend confesses his feelings, please don't reject it. He is our only hope to ever get back out kingdom don't blow it" was she giving me a warning? What?
"Is there something I should know about?" It seems the issue is way deeper than I thought it was, something is definitely up.
"Nothing important"
"Granny, didn't grandpa give me four books?" I asked
"Yes he did, what is the matter?"
"Then why is there only three here?" I recounted to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, I am sure grandpa gave me four. Was that why it felt a bit light when I carried it?
"What? Three? One is missing?" Granny got up and walked towards me to confirm what I just told her.
"Yes, only three now"
"It can't be, I kept all four of them here. Who could have taken it?"
"Does anyone else know the hiding spot? Does anyone else knows about the book?" Granddad did give it to me in the car but he did not specify what it was, who was in the car with us when he gave it to me? Jim, Cynthia, grandma, grandpa, Jonathan, Joseph and I.
So it really is Joseph? He is the spy!
"No, the books were too heavy for me to carry so Jim offered his service and I accepted it, but he dropped the book outside. He did not come in with me" granny said.
"Okay, then who could it be? Joseph was not close by? At all?" I asked again, he was the prime suspect for this I just know he is the one.
"No, I did not see him"
"Then who brought me into the room? All I remember was sleeping at the customs border and finding myself awake in this room the next day"
"Adekunle, he was the one who took you from the bed to the car and the car to your room prin..." Granny stops herself from calling me princess.
"Danie" she corrected herself
Could it be him? No I don't think so, can he? Why would Adekunle do that?
"We should tell the prince, so he would help us keep these 3 in safe custody and also look for the missing one"
"Why can't we look for it ourselves, in loving him would just make things complicated" I insisted besides it could be him and just handing everything over to him wouldn't work.
"No we don't have any authority here, if we want to get anything done I think talking to him is our best bet" granny insisted.
"Since communicating from the spy and Jukun hasn't taken place since we got here, the book definitely is in Nigeria most probably the palace, the prince can tell his guards to search the whole place for us and it could be done in hours"
"Not a bad idea, I haven't thought about it like that" why do I forget I don't have any authority whatsoever here, that's strange. Even if I wasn't their princess they would still respect me because I was a princess.
"Knock knock"
"Definitely Adekunle" I said as I walked to the door to open it for him.
"Hey, Good morning" he said as he extended his arm for a hug.
"Hi" I responded as I embrace him, is granny right? Is he really in love with me? Is he?
"Good morning ma, thought I should come and check up on you" he said as he walked in.
"We are doing great thanks to you your majesty" granny praised.
"Sorry we haven't had any meal together, the house is empty and as you know I am the only one around, but everyone would be back soon" I always found it strange that we were served in our rooms but I just thought that's how normal people eat.
"When are you going for your own vacation?" I asked.
"You want to tag along, could be our honeymoon of you want" he said jokingly.
"Yeah" I awkwardly laughed myself out of the situation, normally I wouldn't think much about the whole thing but since granny is instigating he has feelings for me, I don't think this is just a joke.
"That reminds me, we need your help in keeping something safe" granny said changing the whole trajectory of the conversation.
"Oh what is it? How safe do you want me to keep it?" He asked.
"Books, very! Maximum security"
"Okay, I could keep it at the military base where went to the other day, less people have access to it" he paused for a minute.
"That reminds me, someone has been trying to contact the Ofenya Kingdom again, or should I say is still trying"
"Is it Joseph? Have you guys gotten him?"
"You would be surprised who it is"
