Father's Secrets
Bella Point of view
The sterile smell of disinfectant hit me as I stepped into the hospital room. My brother, he, sat upright on the bed, his attention glued to the phone in his hand. He looked better than the last time I'd seen him, though the faint lines of exhaustion around his eyes hinted at the toll the upcoming trial was taking on him.
He glanced up as I walked in, a warm but weary smile spreading across his face.
"Bella," he said, setting the phone aside. "You're here early."
I forced a small smile as I approached his bedside. "I wanted to check on you. How's your health?"
"I'm good," he replied, waving dismissively. "The doctors say I'll be discharged soon, just in time for my last trial on Monday."
"That's good to hear," I said softly, pulling a chair closer to sit by him.
He studied me for a moment, his brows furrowing. "What's going on with you? You look… distracted."
