The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as I sat in the cozy corner of the café, stirring my cappuccino absentmindedly. My mind was racing, trying to make sense of everything that had happened recently. Sam's recent kindness toward me had thrown me off balance, and the weight of keeping secrets felt heavier than ever.
The chime of the café door opening caught my attention. Jonathan walked in, his face a mix of apology and hesitation. He scanned the room, spotted me, and approached the table.
"Sorry I'm late," he said, sliding into the seat across from me. "Got caught up with something."
"It's fine," I said, offering a small smile. "I needed a moment to think anyway."
Jonathan leaned forward, his expression serious. "I looked into the like you asked."
"And?" I asked eagerly, leaning closer.
