Bella Point of view
The tension from last night still clung to the air like a suffocating fog. I woke up with a heavy heart, replaying every hurtful word Kelvin and Maya had thrown at me. My father's name, my brother's accusations, everything felt like it was crashing down on me.
The sunlight streamed weakly through the curtains, casting long shadows across the room. I turned my head, expecting to see the empty side of the bed, but Sam was there, sitting on the edge with his back to me.
"Couldn't sleep?" I asked softly, my voice breaking the silence.
He turned to face me, his expression unreadable. "Neither could you, I'm guessing."
I gave a small shrug. "Hard to sleep when half the family hates you."
"They don't hate you," he said, but his voice lacked conviction.
