The Silent Night
Sam's Point of view
The night stretched long and restless. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, willing myself to sleep, but it never came. Sharing a room with someone else especially Bella wasn't something I was used to. The space felt stifling, her presence a strange mix of comfort and tension. I shifted for what felt like the hundredth time before finally giving up.
Quietly, I slipped out of bed and made my way to the living room. Maybe a change of scenery would help. I sank onto the couch, closing my eyes, but even then, sleep eluded me. My mind was a chaotic mess of thoughts of Bella, the contract, and the strange unease that hung over the villa like a cloud.
Frustrated, I headed to the fridge in search of something to drink. A cold glass of water usually helped calm my restless mind. After downing the glass, I decided to check the kitchen. Mrs. Bridget's cakes were legendary, and I thought a slice might help.
