The hospital visit had had me in all sorts of moods. I wished Sir Bronton would wake up and tell me that all was going to be alright. I did not expect him to live forever, we were just mere human beings after all, I just needed him to stay a little bit longer. Was that too much to ask? If he died then I was going to be left with no one. When you are rich like I was, most people believed that you could never be lonely-what with the throng of people depending and following you around. That was far from the truth in my situation; there were people around me but there was no one with me. I was always alone, save for my grandpa. And because I did not like showing vulnerability, I never let people see that. I braved it like the big boy that I was. But now that my favourite human was on his death bed, I was starting to feel the loneliness start to creep in. It did not matter that there were people in the mansion and companies working for me, I was still lonely. Me barely talking to my former classmates made it worse. I did not want Sir Bronton to die.
I forgot about the hospital for a moment as there was another thing occupying my mind. I needed to call my supposed father-in-law. I took my phone out my pocket and dialled the number I had saved last. This was the third number he had given me. I had tried the first one and it had not gone through. I got the second and third only after he called me himself with the claim that the other lines had been cut off temporarily. It did not concern me as long as I was able to contact him. That was also going to stop as soon as I had paid him the bride price. He looked like those men who, instead of working hard, leeched onto those with money. I had the money but I did not want his influence on my soon to be wife.
"Hello." I said as soon as the phone connected.
"Hello. Ooh, it is you. I thought you were not going to call until tomorrow." He said.
"Yes. I returned early. I need to meet the girl today. Can you organise a date for the evening. I will send my driver to pick her up at seven." I said without waiting for him to start rambling.
"That is okay by me. She is going to need a dress for the date though and I do not have any cash with me. You know how..." I did not let him finish.
"How much?" I asked.
"Uhmm... Two hundred dollars is okay." I caught him by surprise.
"I am sending you a thousand dollars. Get her dolled up. Let her be ready by seven, okay?" I asked.
"Yes. Thank you. Thank you. I will do as asked." He answered before I disconnected.
I needed to know the woman I was going to marry even if it was just a loveless marriage.
There was one thing I needed to do; check on the project that I had started here. It was going to be my baby for sometime so I needed to make sure that it was successful. I did not do well with failure, that was why I had opted for this kind of marriage. I was good in business and I knew that if I approached this marriage with that mind, then I was going to succeed.
I had organised for the lady's pick up but I had not yet booked a hotel. I was torn between taking her home for my cook to make us a meal. Maybe she would feel comfortable in the presence of my cook.Or maybe not. I could take her to the famous restaurant in town. I did not like that because of the paparazzi. They could sniff someone from a mile away. I did not want that for her, not yet. Maybe until after we were married. Look at me worried about a woman I had not yet met. I shook my head and warned myself that this was not going to be a lovely filled marriage. I was going to take care of her financially but not emotionally. Not that I was going to treat her unkindly, no. I was going to respect her and treat her the same way I treated my workers. I just did not have time for love and romance and all that came with it.
"I am leaving for the site. Make sure you prepare dinner early. I will be coming with a friend." I told my cook.
"Okay sir." She said.
I did not know how long I was going to spend at the site. All I knew was that I had to be home by five. I had decided against going to the restaurant. It was for both our safety and privacy. I preferred being at home to being exposed by the paparazzi and lies being peddled. Now was not the time yet. Today I just wanted to have a nice meal with someone I was going to spend years with.
I arrived at the site within a short time
I was happy that it was not very far from my home. It was a walking distance actually but I was not in the mood to walk. I found the workers in the middle of their jobs. I did not want to interrupt them so I went straight to the supervisor for an update.
"Ooh, boss you are here. Come over, I would like to show you something." He said as a way of greeting and pulled me over to one of the rooms that had not been destroyed yet.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Well, my boys were breaking down the walls and came upon these. This looks like the former owner's office. I bet he forgot about these." The supervisor said.
I looked at where he was pointing and saw what he had been talking about. There were two metallic boxes that seemed to have been put on the wall a long time ago.
"Did you open them?" I asked.
"Not yet. I was going to go home with them and give them to you at home." He answered.
"It is okay. I will send my driver to give them to him. So how is it going?"
"Well, we are almost done with the dismantling. The only thing remaining is cleaning up and starting. The engineer will be coming with the plan tomorrow." He explained.
"Good. I want this done properly. I do not want a shoddy job." I said.
"We will not fail you sir." He assured me.
"Good." I said.
I spent the entire afternoon going over the first draft of the building plan. The engineer was going to come with a modified version but I could also help while here. After all it was my vision.
