Standing at the entrance of the palace grounds, the crew double-checked their belongings, making sure they had packed everything needed for the journey. Eros stood a short distance away, speaking with Gideon, while the rest of the crew waited nearby. Mirabella's eyes shot daggers in his direction, her glare unwavering. Eros pressed the corners of his mouth to suppress a smile as he continued conversing with the Captain.
Noticing Mirabella's angry little face, Toby tugged on her hand. She glanced down at him, the man barely reaching her knees, and posed a questioning look.
"Did the king anger you again?" he asked, glancing toward Eros.
"When does he not?" Mirabella spat, still fuming over her dresses. If the tears had been small, she could have mended them, but that shameless king had cut them in places where repairs would stand out glaringly. Just thinking about it made her cheeks burn crimson with shame.
