Yamcha was naturally unwilling to concede defeat so easily. After realizing that his new Wolf Fang Fist had little effect on John, he decided to use his ultimate technique and assumed the stance for the Kamehameha.
Seeing this, John advised, "You really shouldn't use the Kamehameha; it won't work against me."
However, Yamcha did not give up and unleashed the Kamehameha, sending a massive energy wave towards John. John extended his hands to block it and then pushed it upwards with force, sending the Kamehameha soaring into the sky.
John then declared, "Since you have no more techniques, it's my turn to attack." With that, he lunged forward to strike.
Yamcha quickly dodged, unable to mount a proper counterattack. As John continued his assault, he remarked, "You shouldn't focus too much on developing techniques; instead, you should cultivate a purer martial arts."
"Your techniques have too many unnecessary movements and your energy is chaotic. Your actions often lag behind your thoughts, making it hard for you to improve your martial arts strength."
As he spoke, John's speed increased significantly. Yamcha couldn't evade in time and was struck squarely in the face by John's punch, sending him flying off the stage.
Thus, despite making it to the top four with great difficulty, Yamcha was easily eliminated again.
John walked over to the edge of the stage and helped Yamcha up, smiling as he asked, "Are you okay?"
Yamcha scratched his head and replied, "I'm fine. I expected to lose; I just didn't think it would be so badly or so quickly!"
John reassured him, "No worries. Just keep training hard; one day you'll catch up with me."
Yamcha did not grasp the hidden meaning in John's words and took them as encouragement. He nodded and said, "Okay, I'll keep working hard."
Amidst the enthusiastic applause from the audience, John and Yamcha stepped down from the stage to watch Goku's match against Krillin.
Looking at the two fighters on stage, Yamcha asked John, "Who do you think will win?"
John replied, "Although Krillin has been training hard these past few years, Goku hasn't been stagnant either. So I think Goku has a slightly higher chance of winning."
Despite losing his own match, Yamcha felt compelled to argue against John. He said, "I've trained with Krillin for three years; I know how hard he works. So I think Krillin has a better chance in this match."
John looked at Yamcha with a smirk and said, "Oh really? Do you want to make a bet on who will win?"
Upon hearing this, Yamcha immediately declined to bet since it was obviously a losing proposition. He thought for a moment and replied, "Master Roshi clearly stated that students of the Turtle School are prohibited from gambling; it's not good."
After saying this, he moved to another side to continue watching Goku and Krillin's match.
John merely smiled in response and continued watching.
As the host announced the start of the match, Goku and Krillin charged at each other. In an instant, they exchanged dozens of blows.
Krillin kicked Goku into the air and then assumed the stance for Kamehameha but hesitated and did not execute it.
Curious about Krillin's decision not to use it, Goku asked upon landing again: "Krillin, why didn't you use the Kamehameha just now?"
Krillin answered: "Because I know that Kamehameha won't work on you; doing so would only waste my energy."
The two resumed their battle as various intricate techniques were showcased.
- Afterimage Technique
- Binding Technique
- Drunken Fist
- Monkey Fist
- Rock-Paper-Scissors
- And of course, Kamehameha.
The fight between them was intense compared to John's quick victory over Yamcha; it was clear that everyone preferred watching Goku and Krillin's match.
Master Roshi observed his two disciples fighting on stage and couldn't help but marvel at how much they had progressed in just a few short years. It seemed he was truly getting old.
After more than half an hour of fighting, Krillin realized he was not Goku's match. The only reason he had lasted this long was that Goku was holding back and feeding him moves.
However, Krillin was unwilling to concede defeat just like that. At that moment, his eyes caught sight of Goku's tail and reminded him of three years ago when Goku's grandfather had caught him by his tail, rendering him powerless.
To defeat Goku, Krillin needed to come up with a different strategy.
With a loud shout, Krillin declared: "Goku! Get ready! I'm going to win this match!" He then spread his arms before him and shouted: "Solar Flare!"
Suddenly a sun appeared above the arena; everyone except those wearing sunglasses was blinded by its glaring light.
If Tien Shinhan were fighting Goku instead of Krillin right now, Goku might have been prepared for this move. However, he never expected Krillin would use Solar Flare and was caught off guard.
Knowing he would face Goku soon enough made Krillin think of ways to gain an advantage over him. Later he remembered Goku's tail and recalled Tien Shinhan's Solar Flare technique.
Using Solar Flare temporarily blinded Goku while Krillin seized the opportunity to grab Goku's weak spot—his tail.
It would be impossible for Krillin to master Solar Flare in just one day through self-study; however, since Tien Shinhan knew how to use it well enough—because John had saved both himself and Chaoz—Tien Shinhan willingly taught Krillin how to perform Solar Flare.
Thus when Krillin suddenly used Solar Flare in the arena, it indeed caused Goku to temporarily lose his sight.
In a blinding white haze, Goku remained extremely cautious against any incoming attacks from Krillin; he knew this was his most dangerous moment.
At that moment, Goku suddenly felt someone grab his tail. Realizing what Krillin was up to made him instinctively fall onto the stage.
When everyone regained their vision again, they saw Krillin grinning widely as he held onto Goku's tail while Goku lay face down on the stage.
Krillin called out to the host: "Aren't you going to start counting down?"
Though unsure why he should do so, the host began counting down as per Krillin's request.
"One... two... three... seven... eight..."
Just as the host reached eight counts, Goku suddenly lifted his head with a cheeky grin before flipping back onto his feet on stage.
In shock at what he saw before him—Goku standing tall—Krillin swung his tail with all his might. Grabbing onto it sent him crashing heavily onto the stage below.
