Due to John's significant physical exhaustion from his battle with Goku, the organizers consulted Master Roshi and extended John's original ten-minute break to thirty minutes for the final match.
After thirty minutes, amidst the enthusiastic applause of the crowd, John and Master Roshi made their entrance.
Initially, many spectators thought Master Roshi was just an old man with gray hair and assumed he would be weak. However, he proved his strength by consecutively eliminating the wild Yamcha and Master Roshi's own disciple, Krillin. This significantly elevated Master Roshi's status in the eyes of the audience.
Meanwhile, John, a handsome young man and a disciple of the God of Martial Arts, had fought his way through many martial artists to reach this point. His final showdown with Goku as fellow disciples only added to his popularity, making it comparable to Master Roshi's.
As both entered the arena, thunderous applause erupted from the crowd, who believed they were about to witness an intense battle—a visual feast.
The host announced loudly: "I declare the finals officially begin!" With a loud clang of a gong, John launched the first attack against Master Roshi.
After a half-hour break, John managed to suppress the muscle injuries in his arms and aimed to see if he could overpower Master Roshi with sheer force.
However, Goku and Krillin watching from the sidelines found it odd that John, who had previously been calm and collected in battles, chose to attack first in this final round.
Master Roshi also noticed something was off with John. Concerned about John's instinctual action, he opted for defense. But once they engaged in combat, he realized that John's mindset had changed since fighting Goku.
John's aura was now extremely volatile, and Master Roshi could easily sense his movements.
With a loud "bang," they collided again before separating back onto the stage. Master Roshi asked: "What's wrong with you? Why are you attacking so recklessly? This isn't like you."
John regained his stance and replied: "That's none of your concern. If you think you have the strength, then defeat me."
Not wanting to say much more, Master Roshi leaped forward with a knife-hand strike aimed at John. John leaned back and performed a kick towards Master Roshi.
However, Master Roshi had already leaped over John and landed a foot on John's shoulder. The pain shot through John as old injuries from his battle with Goku flared up again.
Despite the pain, John stood up again and attacked Master Roshi. At this point, Master Roshi finally noticed that John's right arm was injured.
Both he and John were still in a warm-up phase of testing techniques; it was clear that John's injuries were not inflicted by him but rather from using instinctual action during his fight with Goku.
Master Roshi said: "John, your shoulder is injured. I advise you to concede; continuing like this will only worsen your injury."
John shook his head and replied: "Unless you knock me off the stage or I knock you off."
Master Roshi responded: "I appreciate your spirit but don't agree with your approach. Then let me send you off the stage."
At that moment, Master Roshi prepared to use Kamehameha while John couldn't use it due to his arm injury.
Just then, a full moon appeared in the sky where Goku spotted it and transformed into a giant ape once again.
The crowd panicked and scattered as Goku began rampaging through the martial arts tournament venue.
The sudden change startled both John and Master Roshi during their duel; they quickly turned their attention toward Goku's giant form.
Yamcha shouted loudly: "When Goku sees a full moon, he transforms into a giant ape! His weakness is his tail; if we cut it off, he will revert back!"
Hearing Yamcha's voice gave Master Roshi an idea; since Goku's tail would grow back even if cut off—if he transformed into a giant ape upon seeing the moon—then he would destroy that moon to ensure his disciple would never transform into one again.
So Master Roshi shouted to John: "You distract Goku; I'll destroy that moon!"
With that, Master Roshi removed his shirt and focused his energy; instantly he transformed from a frail old man into a muscular figure.
Understanding what Master Roshi intended, John along with Yamcha and Krillin worked together to hold off Goku's giant form.
While Yamcha and Krillin drew Goku's attention away, John leaped onto Goku's tail from behind and clung tightly to it.
Gradually, the previously rampaging giant ape began to calm down. At that moment, from not far away on the stage came Master Roshi's powerful voice:
"Kame... Hame... Ha!"
A massive energy gathered in his hands shaped like a flower bud as he unleashed full-power Kamehameha towards the moon above.
A blinding light flashed followed by an immense shockwave; after a cloud of dust settled down, Goku reverted back from his giant ape form into human form.
Connecting this event with what Master Roshi had just said earlier made everyone look up at the moon; they then realized that what was once a large full moon was now marred with a huge crater—a gaping hole appeared on its surface.
Following this was countless fragments of the moon hurtling toward Earth creating a massive meteor shower.
The host saw this scene and screamed loudly: "Oh no! Without the moon how will we enjoy mooncakes during Mid-Autumn Festival? How can werewolves transform during full moons without it?"
Master Roshi shouted back: "Shut up! Would you rather I destroy the moon instead of people?!"
After saying this, he pointed at John and declared: "Referee! He has stepped out of bounds! Therefore I win this match!"
Hearing Master Roshi's words left John stunned; upon looking at the stage he realized that in trying to stop Goku from transforming into a giant ape he had indeed stepped outside of its boundaries.
But wasn't it because my teacher told me to hold off Goku? How could he betray his own disciple like this without any remorse?
The host approached John after hearing Master Roshi's declaration; confirming John's position on stage before announcing loudly: "I declare that contestant John has voluntarily stepped out of bounds! Contestant Jackie Chun wins!"
