Carl's heart ached as he looked at her pale face, his voice filled with concern and tenderness.
"Bonnie, let me stay and take care of you for a few days."
Bonnie turned her head slightly, the tears she had been holding back now threatening to spill. She could see the sincerity in his eyes, the love he had been hiding for so long, but she knew deep down that she couldn't give him what he wanted.
She quietly shook her head.
"No, Carl... I can't. You should go back to Thailand. It's too dangerous for you here, and I don't want to drag you into my mess."
Her voice trembled, and she could feel her heart breaking with every word she said. She didn't want him to stay because she knew it would only cause more pain for both of them. She had already been through so much, and she didn't want him to suffer because of her.
