Closing the door behind her, Cynthia finally turned around, holding Olive, who was still sound asleep on her shoulder. She took a good look at the apartment. The place was bright and spotless, with every essential item already in place—there was no need for her to buy anything anew.
Her first thought was, how could someone as carefree as Bonnie suddenly become so meticulous? Then she recalled what he had mentioned in the car earlier: he had borrowed the keys from Bonnie and found someone to clean up and prepare the place for her. Lazy.
Frowning, she reached out to wipe a finger along the cabinet nearby. Her fingertip came away perfectly clean, without a speck of dust. Still, she wasn't entirely convinced. She refused to believe that man could be so thoughtful. After laying Olive down in the bedroom, she took out her phone and called Bonnie.
"Bonnie, I'm sorry. Actually, I came back yesterday but only just got around to calling you!"
