She had slept deeply until the evening. When she woke up, she planned to make herself something to eat. Just as she opened the fridge, the door to her small apartment was suddenly opened from the outside. She turned around to see him standing in the doorway, his face solemn, with a hint of pain in his eyes. The scent of smoke hit her immediately, and she instinctively covered her nose.
He walked in and bent down to change his shoes at the entrance. She glanced at him but didn't say anything. There was only instant noodles in the fridge, so she took out a pack and headed into the kitchen.
When she came out after making the noodles, she saw him sitting on the sofa, his jacket still on, as if he wasn't planning to stay. This felt different; usually, whenever he came, he'd linger, unwilling to leave.
She didn't want to face him directly, but the apartment was so small, there was no other place to eat besides the coffee table in front of the sofa, so she sat down.
