For almost a century House Targaryen has ruled over the lands of Westeros and in there time bringing both peace, prosperity, and innovation to the land. King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, "The Old King", "The Conciliator", ruled for nearly sixty years over the lands of Westeros with his sister-wife, Queen Alysanne Targaryen. During this time they helped to expand House Targaryen's reach and influence over the realm, helping to prevent multiple conflicts and wars within the realm and built upon the legacy that King Aegon I Targaryen and King Aenys I Targaryen put into place.
However, whilst Jaehaerys and Alysanne may have found it easy ruling over a realm that always seemed to want to tear itself apart, ruling over their children was a different story.
Over the many years that Jaehaerys and Alysanne were married they had many children, each a different personality from the others yet all still a headcase and all unfortunately never outliving their parents. Despite Jaehaerys and Alysanne having thirteen children, none of them would live long enough to put their parents to rest. But that didn't mean their children didn't set the stage for the next Targaryen generation, one that would outlive their parents and bring on the greatest age as well as later the greatest war in Targaryen history.
King Jaehaerys had four eldest sons, all born in close years to one another. And though none of them would live long enough to claim the Iron Throne once their father passed, their grandchildren would be.
Jaehaerys eldest child, Prince Aegon Targaryen was born in the year 49 AC. Aegon was a good and young lad who grew up in close proximity with his younger siblings. As a child, Aegon excelled in his duties as the Crown Prince, learning his histories, learning how to rule from his father, and learning how to fight alongside his younger brothers - Aemon and Baelon Targaryen.
However, despite excelling in his role as Crown Prince, Aegon never seemed to want to embrace his Targaryen heritage. Whilst his brothers each tried to tame a Dragon as their mount as each Targaryen generation often did, Aemon and Baelon claiming large and powerful beasts of fire and war, Aegon never seemed to care for that sort of thing nor did he like the Valyrian custom of marrying brother to sister.
Jaehaerys as well as Alysanne, even Aegon's brothers and sisters, often encouraged Aegon to embrace his Valyrian side, claiming that it was a natural thing as the Crown Prince he was expected to follow these ancient customs. Yet Aegon would not listen. He would not submit despite Jaehaerys and Alysanne's urgings. He did not want to claim a dragon hatchling, whether it be out of fear or plain disinterest nobody knew, and he especially would not marry one of his younger sisters.
So in disgust to the brother-sister marriages that House Targaryen had practiced for centuries, Aegon's own parents included in following this ancient tradition, Aegon knowing that he still had to keep his bloodline pure Valyrian blood married Lady Daenaera Velaryon - His distant cousin.
despite bringing five children from this marriage, tragedy would strike as the plague known as the shivers would strike the land, wiping out almost a fifth of the population of Westeros and unfortunately for House Targaryen - Aegon, his eldest son: Prince Daeron Targaryen, and his younger sister Princess Daenerys Targaryen each fell ill to this sickness and all three did not make it.
It was a devastating blow to House Targaryen as both the heir and the heirs eldest son had perished so suddenly and unexpectantly. Yet they pushed on. Aegon's youngest son Baelor was made heir, the realm mourned their loses, and then moved on despite the pain. Yet Aegon and Daenerys were just the first children to perish.
The next was years later, Princess Alyssa Targaryen, wife to Prince Baelon and eldest living daughter of Jaehaerys and Alysanne, on the seventh moon in the year 85 years old during her sixth pregnancy, Alyssa died on the birthing bed giving birth to what would be her and Baelon final child. The child, a small silver-gold haired and violet eyed girl named Princess Shaena Targaryen, thankfully lived but the gaining of Shaena would not be enough to make up for the loss of Alyssa.
Next was Daella who also perished giving birth to her one and only daughter - Lady Aemma Arryn, then came Viserra who died in a drunken horse race when her horse collapsed onto her and shatter every bone in her upper body, then came Aemon who died to a crossbolt to the face in 91 AC when putting down an pirate encursion with his dragon - Caraxes, on the island of Tarth.
One by one the children of Jaehaerys and Alysanne perished, some a very young children, others through different circumstances and by the time the year 101 AC came along, only one child, or at least 1 son remained alive. Prince Baelon, the Kings fourth-born child was the last
