Chapter 1 - The First Meeting

...

It was a great day, with clear sky and only few occasionally clouds that cover over the sun's ray, bringing the much-anticipated rest for those who find themselves burning from the weather.

Yeah, the sun is really hot these days, especially since they are now currently in the summer's heat.

At least that was what most people thought, except.

'Me,' she thought with funny smile on her lips.

It was a short girl with invisible swirling blue mana that covered her whole body, giving her protection from the glaring sun.

Her name is Zupere Lionel Litere, but most known her as Zupitere.

She is in a mission where, after sneaked out from her own original caravan, now she enjoys the charm of the city with a big, gray hooded cloak's that hide her figure fully.

Not like she had much actually.

After savoring a bite of the grilled meat, then paying and thanking the seller who hesitate, wanted to reprimand her as to why a little kid is wandering alone in the city, Zupitere suddenly run, then goes to an alley in haste where she turned her body swiftly.

Afterwards, she stomped one of her legs frustratedly facing nothing.

"Lara, I thought we had an agreement that you won't follow me?"

"I'm sorry, young lady. But priority to your safety is always at the top of the list. Please, just pretends that I don't exist. So go ahead. Have fun," says a woman that has materialized out of nowhere in front of Zupitere.

She had short silver hair and expressionless face, all the while wearing a gray cloak much like Zupitere. Her hood is opened wide, but she used a black mask that covered the lower half of her face.

If someone look closely, there is a glint of fondness and kindness in her eyes every time her gaze met Zupitere's figure.

Flabbergasted with jaws drop open, Zupitere subsequently throwing hurls of tantrum to Lara, "How? Tell me how do I pretend you don't exist? I bet, if I create a mess here, you will stop me, aren't you?"

"Of course, naturally. Your family reputation always takes precedence above all of your wish, my lady," she replied without so much of a change in expression.

...

As the clatters of many horses ringing upon the cacophony of noises in the city, with Zupitere still exasperated at Lara who still insist on following her, suddenly, an explosion breaks out in one of its buildings, shaking the original noises, with questions, panics and confusions, rippling through the streets.

It was close to Zupitere, as she is now stunned in her place, looking up above to the black smokes, drifting in the air, with only two building separated them. The shaking of the ground still felt by her.

Lara then materialized out of thin air in front of Zupitere, as her hands now stretched out halting the latter steps.

"Stay here young lady. Don't..." her words then cut off as realization's finally hit her.

Turning herself swiftly to the back, she founds out, Zupitere is already missing, replaced with a piece of floating paper that is scribed with glowing black Rune Spell, {Cloak of Shadows}.

"My Lady..." she shouts out to her surrounding in panic.

Well, this isn't first time for her finding the mischievous young lady of hers running out of nowhere from her, but regardless, she still worried since the explosion is close to them.

And what actually worried her is because, she felt the presences from those Void Servants.

Those cruel, treacherous people are different from magical beasts that the young lady fought all years long. She worried she will be tricked by them.

'I will secretly tell her father of this action of hers. Hmmm, she needs a spanking from her mother to behave,' planned by Lara as she is now using a Rune Spell, {Spectral Pursuit}.

While activated the Arcane Parchment, she is now do so with heartache since this Enchanted Rune Parchment are bought by, not her, of course.

But by Zupitere's father and is now the only ones left.

When she seen it first time in the Mystic Scriptorium, and finds out how expensive it was, her heart beaten fast like horse galloping in the wild, as she is then hold it like a treasure of sort after that experience.

But alas, this is the only one that can track Zupitere, since what she uses is equally expensive piece of Rune Parchment. Luckily, it wasn't the enchanted one.

But after activating the spell, only then she realized.

The one her young lady Zupitere use, is indeed the enchanted one.

And if she was right, it actually was {Veil of Shadows}, the several upgraded versions of {Cloak of Shadows}. That is the only way to explain her situation now as the spell couldn't find the tracks of Zupitere.

With breeze blowing on her cloak, she couldn't help but muttered under her breath, "F*ck."

...

"Over there," Shouts a guard wearing their steel enchanted armor and accompanied by layer of rich blue fabric, that is known by all of the citizens in the City of Elyndor, as the Echelon Knight's Order of the Central Region.

Afterwards, countless knights hurriedly running to the directions that is pointed by the earlier knight who already chase after the man in black cloaks, who after blows up a store, killing the whole family inside, this knight face that is hidden under his steel helmet, is now red from rage.

Suddenly, the people in the street who avoided the knights who busy with their pursuit, pointed their fingers above the building, where a figure with long jet-black hair that is flowing in the wind, could be seen leapt from roof to roof with effortless grace.

With each jump, he grew faster, as his pursuit of the black cloaked figure intensifying.

In a matter of seconds, he overtook the knights who were also in pursuit, as his calm, and sharp blue eyes in now locked on his target.

At last, he jumped to the figures that is now surprised from the shadows that suddenly growing bigger, covered him from above.

And it was.

Evan Moonlight, who took the great sword that is strapped across his back, immediately slashed it at the man who quickly stops his run, then hastily spreads his palms to the directions of the attack.

An illusionary black barrier covered him, stopping the attack from Evan, creating a grating sound from the frictions that reverberated to the surrounding.

*Khhhiiinngg*

But just as the man heaved a sigh of relief, Evan sword is glowing with intense azure glow, as he used the Magic Art, one of the skills he learned that made him capable of climbed up through the rank even in his tender age, becoming a commander of the whole Advanced Regiment.

[Crescent Slash]

The next scene is where an intense wave of azure energy flies toward the ground, passing the man and its black barrier, creating a deep chasm in the ground as silence suddenly filled the whole surrounding.

The man in black cloak, from its shoulder to its waist is cut open, creating a line of blood.

Then, as in a cue of sort from Evan that now finally placed his sword to his back that is still clean, gleaming in the sun, the black cloak man's upper body then now sliding, until falling to the ground, with its lower half, somehow still standing in its current position.

The bloods then splashed everywhere as Evan still looking coldly at the dead body of the enemy, with mana barrier covering him from the red liquids that now splattering around to the surrounding pavements.

With the children's eyes are covered by their parents hands from the gory sight, those adults who both arms are still free suddenly clapping, with the numbers of it still growing, filled the whole square, resounded through the street of the City of Elyndor, the capital city of Central Region.

Responding to that, Evan bowed his back left and right respectfully to the citizens, who gazing at him with gratitude, warms and appreciations.

Of course, Evan is also happy for the citizens.

And the action he did by executing the criminal in the spot who had high possibility of being the Servants of the Void, is a right one, since endanger the others from many procedures that will come from the trial is the least things he wanted.

Yet, there is no happiness that filled his heart.

Why you asked?

He can't.

He just can't.

And will never and should ever relaxed for a minute.

He knows, the growing dangers in the future aren't yet solved.

Tightly gripped his fist, Evan recalled the teaching and the promise with his master who already passed away. The one and only mentor who helped him becoming who he is right now.

Internally, he then said to himself, 'Don't worry, master. With my life and my honor in the line, as one of the knights of the Echelon. I will protect this region. And your legacy shall not be in vain.'

Suddenly, his figure straightened as Evan swiftly turn his head to the figure that materialize out of thin air.

It was a short, young girl who sat upon the pavement while trembling.

She wears a grey cloak with hoods that now are open, revealing a long flowing white hair that is cascaded to her back, brushing against the ground below.

She is now looked at the corpse, divided from the shoulder to the waist, with shock, horror and terrified look.

Her legs that time when she is still hidden, all of sudden grows weak, too stunned from the spectacle where Evan cut open the criminal right in front of her eyes.

She used to kill indeed, but all of it was only magical beast who electrocuted to dead by her lightning magic.

So, she never once in the entirety of her quite sheltered life, seen a man died just like that, especially in the gruesome way in which the person's died before her eyes.

...

Frowning, Evan secretly tensed his body while looking at the girl with vigilance, especially from the magic that made him incapable of finding her presence. It somewhat terrified him as the girl managed to get so close without him even slightest bit aware.

Subsequently, he raised a question to her, still with a calm look etched on his face, "Who are you?"

...
