Chapter 20 - EMBARRASSED

"I told you I hate liars," he said, walking towards her.

"I'm not lying. I know nothing about the diamonds. Why won't you believe me?" She asked, her lips starting to quiver.

He was walking towards her. She couldn't flee behind because her back was against the closet.

She could run sideways, but she'd just end up falling on that extremely big bed that just had a gun on it. She didn't want that either.

So she stayed put, and prayed silently that he just stopped coming closer.

"I don't believe you. You're the only one that knows about the diamonds. They belong to me, and I want them back."

"If these diamonds you speak of belong to you, how am I involved then? I don't know anything about any diamonds."

"You're lying," he stopped just before he could close the gap between them. "You're really—"

Her stomach growled, interrupting his words.

His eyes went down, and she almost collapsed into the ground from embarrassment.

"You're hungry," he said.

"I'm not. I'm just exhausted, okay? If I'm not going to be attending my fashion show, thereby ruining my entire social status, can I just sleep? I just want to sleep," she said, eyeing the bed from the corner of her eyes.

Yes, the bed had held a gun, but it was also just as huge as hers back home.

She missed it terribly, and wouldn't mind laying on something with a little similarity.

"No one asked you not to sleep. You pretended to faint for attention. Well now you have my attention," he said.

Her face turned crimson. It was the way he spoke.

She could tell he didn't mean to come out flirty, but the bass of his voice was too seductive.

"What is it?" He asked, confused by her reaction.

"I didn't want your attention. I just wanted attention in general," she replied, clearing the air.

"That's another lie. Is that all you do? Lie?"

She opened her mouth to respond, when her stomach growled again.

"Oh shut it!" She muttered, and shut her eyes in embarrassment.

"Maybe she would shut it when you stop starving her. I'm not a fan of what Sullivan tried to do, but on a second thought, maybe he had the right idea."

Her eyes shot open, and widened. "Don't say that. I'd sue you for everything you're worth if you force me to eat," she warned.

He gave her a once over, and shook his head.

"Where do you think you are?"

"Well everyone keeps calling it hell. I believe it now. This has to be my personal hell. That's why I can't walk ten paces without someone covering my face. Why can't I see what is going on in this creepy, dark ass establishment. I'm so exhausted!" She breathed out, and squeezed snuggles to her chest.

Ares blinked, and took a step back to give her more space to breathe.

He didn't understand her. She was too complicated for him.

What he liked in women was simplicity. His life was complicated enough.

"What?" He heard her ask.

"What?"

"This is usually when you'd mention the diamonds again. I keep telling you I know nothing about those and—"

She looked down on her stomach, almost lost it, as it rang again.

But on second thought, she couldn't blame it.

It was hard enough to eat in an environment she was familiar with.

Eating in this place where she couldn't trust anyone was right next to impossible.

"Can't you just be patient?" She muttered to it in a tired voice.

"I'll call the kitchen to get you some food. You need to eat," he said, turning around.

"No, I'm fine. I'm really fine. I just need to—"

He grabbed his phone, cutting her off as he ordered whoever was at the other end of the line to bring some food.

Angel exhaled, and swallowed the counter words that had formed on her tongue.

He was stubborn, but she absolutely would not allow him to force her to eat..

"You can shower in the bathroom," he said right after he hung up.

"He– here?" She stuttered.

"Yes, why? Do you have a problem with that?" He asked.

Her eyes lowered, as she actually took out time to look around.

It was a minimalist space at best, although extremely spacious.

Almost like an apartment in itself.

Its decoration was simple, yet artsy and creative.

She loved the juxtaposition of the white and black color scheme.

In a way, it reminded her of him. His dark aesthetic, but always had a light shining on him.

Whoever designed the room, really did capture his essence

There was a couch, a bed, a study desk, closet, and just one art piece on the wall.

In comparison to the totally dark rooms she had endured, and the ugly blue painted room she was tossed in, she actually liked this one.

"Okay!" She said giddily, and smiled.

"Okay, what?"

"I'll shower here. Can I get a change of clothes too? Also, can I see the club?"

"The club?" He lifted a brow.

"Yes, the club. The one where all the strippers would work the poles."

"No, you can't," he replied brusquely, and began walking towards her again.

"Why can't I?" She asked, shifting uncomfortably.

He didn't show any sign of stopping this time around, and she was beginning to panic.

"I don't want you there." He shrugged, just a few steps away from her.

"But—" her lips quivered to a stop, when he stepped right in front of her.

"But what?" He asked, his voice dropping an octave lower, and his head following suit.

"I— wan-ted to watch Lucia-na," she stuttered, lowering her gaze.

He was too close. Way too close for her liking.

"You can't," he said, stretching his hand.

"Oh God!" She gasped in her head.

He was going to touch her. He was going to touch her, and she didn't know how she'd react.

His hands brushed her shoulders, and a shudder ran through her.

"Don't," she whispered weakly.

"Don't what?" He asked.

"Don't touch me that way. It's not right. I have a fiance."

"Don't touch you in what way?"

"Like—" she opened her eyes, and discovered she was somehow beside the closet.

"I moved you so I could pick out a shirt for you from the closet," he said, raising the shirt up. "What did you think I was going to do?"

She cleared her throat, and with her head bowed, hurried towards the bed.

"Let's get one thing straight, Princess, even if you beg me to take you, I won't. Do you understand?"

Embarrassed, she prayed fervently that the ground would open up, and swallow her whole.
