Chapter 8 - Chapter VII | The Abyss

An Abyssal is a human native to the Abyss, also known as Abb.

The Abyssal Realms exist as a world entirely separate from Earth, governed by unique laws, infused with its own magic and advanced technology. Mana—a potent energy source—fuels both ancient sorcery and futuristic innovations, creating a realm that harmoniously blends mysticism and progress.

This hidden universe remains shrouded from Earth's knowledge, veiled by strict secrecy.

Occasionally, by a stroke of fortune, some Abyssals are blessed with the ability to visit or interact with Earth.

I was born for this role. Quite literally.

My mother was human, and my father an Abyssal.

In recent decades, half-hybrids like me make up nearly 60% of the Abyssal population. However, strict laws are in place to maintain balance and protect both worlds:

The secrecy law: The existence of the Abyssal Realms must not be revealed to humans, except for trusted individuals, such as spouses.

The abilities law: Abyssal abilities must not be used to harm humans or expose their nature.

Travel regulations: Laws govern the use of abilities for traveling between the two worlds.

My mother was an exceptional woman—a talented weapons engineer for the CIA. She met my father during one of his visits to Earth, back when he was exploring the human world.

At the time, my father, a member of the Abyssal royal family, sought to experience the sensation of being "drunk," something his kind rarely achieved due to their extreme alcohol tolerance. To lower his resistance, he developed a special medicine and, for once, let loose.

Their meeting was brief yet life-changing. My father left her with compensation and assumed she had taken birth control—something she confirmed. But human contraceptives had no effect on an Abyssal child. Months later, she discovered she was pregnant.

When she reached out to him, my father explained everything about the Abyss. Practical and composed, they came to an agreement—she would join his consorts.

Despite her talents, my mother had little interest in raising a child. She viewed me through the lens of survival and legacy, preparing me for the challenges of inheriting my father's throne, should I choose to claim it. She trained me rigorously, ensuring I had resources, wealth, and loyal allies, like Estelle, to secure my footing in the Abyss.

Her mysterious background earned her the ire of the other consorts, but she was unbothered. She knew I would face harassment and ensured I had the means to protect myself.

By the age of five, I manifested my ability to travel freely between Earth and the Abyss.

Tragically, my mother passed away from one of her missions when I was six. However, she left me a vast inheritance, including billions of dollars accumulated through shrewd investments.

I was no fool. I used my inheritance to establish a corporation under my family name. Within a year, Eminence Enterprises grew into a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate, cementing my place in both the Abyssal and human worlds.

The Royal Ball tonight was held in honor of the Emperor and Empress's wedding anniversary.

I stood ready in an off-shoulder, elegant black dress that draped gracefully to my ankles. Paired with silver jewelry and an olive-leaf-inspired headpiece, my ensemble exuded sophistication. My hair fell loose, complementing the headpiece, while my golden irises shimmered in the golden light of the grand hall.

I held a black fan adorned with intricate silver designs, completing the look with black gloves. Everything about my appearance reflected my royal heritage.

With a snap of my fingers, a black void formed into an arch-shaped doorway before me. Snapping my fan open, I stepped through the portal with unwavering confidence.

I was ready.
