Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Echo of Old Stories

The next morning, as the family sat down for breakfast, Lila began to share stories from her past. Felix and Yara listened intently, hanging on her every word, while Ethan interjected with the occasional remark or clarification. Mia, though still young, felt a growing fascination with these tales of old, sensing that they held keys to understanding her family's history and purpose.

"Back when I was a girl, the village was much smaller," Lila began, her eyes distant as if seeing a long-lost world. "There were no grand houses or paved roads, just dirt paths and wooden huts. People lived simply, and they didn't worry much about things outside their own doorsteps."

Felix leaned forward, his expression thoughtful. "What changed, Mom? How did things become the way they are now?"

Lila sighed, glancing over at Ethan before continuing. "The world grew larger, more connected. Merchants started coming through with tales of distant lands, and people began to think of new possibilities. But with that came a hunger—a desire for more than just the simple life we had known."

Ethan nodded in agreement. "There were those who sought power and control, and they brought their conflicts here. People who once lived in harmony began to turn on each other, drawn into battles that had nothing to do with them."

Yara's eyes widened, a mix of awe and fear in her gaze. "Did you fight too, Mom?"

Lila smiled, a sad glint in her eyes. "We all fought, in one way or another. But not all battles are fought with weapons. Sometimes, the hardest fights are the ones that happen in your heart."

Mia absorbed these words, feeling a pang of empathy for her mother. She sensed that Lila carried burdens that went beyond the present, echoes of a past that had shaped her into the woman she was today. Though Mia was too young to fully grasp the weight of these memories, she felt a deep respect for the strength and resilience they represented.

As breakfast ended, Lila stood and began clearing the table, a faraway look in her eyes. Mia watched her, sensing that there were parts of her mother's story that remained unspoken, hidden beneath the surface.

The family spent the rest of the day tending to their chores, but Mia couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted. She felt as if she had glimpsed a hidden part of her family, a piece of their past that had shaped them into the people they were now.
