Jumping with joy, Molly ran excitedly through the orphanage, not even caring about the scornful looks the other children occasionally shot her way.
'Yes, soon I will be free to escape this hellhole,' she thought joyfully as she made her way to Matron Mary's office and enthusiastically knocked on the door.
"Enter!"
Happily shoving the door open with a loud 'bang,' Molly didn't even mind when the door fell off the hinges and almost fell on her as she narrowly dodged out of the way jumping over it in the process to enter into the room.
Smiling, Molly placed herself in front of Matron Mary's desk, her whole body fidgeting with excitement.
Feeling the creases beside her eyes deepen, Matron Mary let out a sigh, but even the door falling off the hinges didn't dampen her good mood. Today she would finally be rid of this bringer of disaster.
"The carriage will arrive to take you to the cathedral in about ten minutes, so until then take a seat and don't move a single finger!" Matron Mary warned, pointing her finger in Molly's face.
Not bothered by her words, Molly went over to one of the couches and took a seat, her entire body trembling in excitement as she waited. She still had no idea what class she would take, but she figured she would become inspired when the time came.
The ten minutes went by exceptionally slow, with Molly fidgeting the entire time.
"The carriage is here," Matron Mary said, walking back into the room, and giving the broken doorway a regretful glance.
Rushing to her feet, Molly ran out the door, tripping after two steps over her own feet. Not minding the pain, she promptly picked herself back up and moved slower and more carefully through the orphanage until she made it outside to the run-down wooden carriage.
Stumbling, Molly made it into the carriage and took a seat, smiling as it began to rock forward. Scooting towards the window, she watched as the scenery changed.
Since being reborn, she had never been able to leave the vicinity of the orphanage, making this her first chance to visit the city. Looking out, she watched farmland pass by and began happily thinking of how she would get to see Max after her unlocking ceremony.
Watching the scenery pass by, Molly was happy when she started to see stone buildings pass by and even watched several people run around at inhuman speeds.
She felt mesmerized as she saw the impossible feats people performed, none of which would have been possible back on Earth. The carriage soon came to a halt in front of a giant marble stone cathedral. Happy, Molly jumped out of the carriage as soon as it came to a halt, with all four wheels collapsing at once as she got out of it.
The carriage driver jumped down and scratched his head as he looked at the wheels in confusion.
Whistling nonchalantly, Molly sauntered off innocently. She approached the grand doors of the cathedral and pushed the door open, struggling a bit due to its heaviness.
Prying it open, Molly fell forward as the door opened, landing on her butt just inside the cathedral.
"Ow," she complained before noticing a gloved hand extended down towards her.
Looking up, she saw a handsome young man who looked around seventeen or eighteen years old with nicely styled black hair, cool grey eyes, and a strong jawline that was accented by elegant features. He was dressed in a well-tailored black and blue suit accented with beautifully stitched silver embroidery.
Taking his hand, the young man easily helped her to her feet.
"Thank you," Molly said, smiling as she looked into the young man's gray eyes.
He didn't respond and glided past her out of the door. "What an odd guy," Molly mused as she watched him leave.
Shrugging, she wandered deeper into the cathedral, looking at the beautiful paintings and the gold-encrusted walls as she walked. Looking at everything with wide, sparkly eyes, she stopped to look at one particular painting she liked of a sunset.
Not long after she stopped to admire the painting, it erupted in flames, causing Molly to jump back in surprise. 'Flames, that's a new one,' she thought as she glanced at the burning painting.
A white-robed priest came running towards her with a ball of water floating in his palm before throwing it towards the painting, causing the flames to go out.
"Are you alright?" the priest asked with concern.
"Yes, thank you," Molly replied, not concerned by the fire.
A relieved expression crossed the priest's face. "That's good to hear, though I do wonder how it caught fire in the first place."
"Who knows, these kinds of things sometimes happen," she said, her eyes darting off to the side a bit.
"Well, you must be Molly. Follow me, I will take you to your unlocking ceremony."
Following the priest, Molly hoped that when her system unlocked, she would be able to get some sort of skill that would help to combat the unfortunate events that seemed to follow her wherever she went.
The priest eventually led her into an elaborately decorated chamber with a golden podium at the end with dozens of chairs sitting in front of it. Several other children were already sitting, all of whom had parents sitting beside them.
Taking her seat away from the other children, she waited patiently for the priest in charge of unlocking systems to arrive. Several of the children stared at her and whispered to their parents while pointing; Molly shot them a glare for being rude before going back to ignoring them.
Eventually, an old grandfatherly man with a fluffy white beard wearing a white robe decorated in gold embroidery walked in with a large, immaculately decorated book positioned between his arms.
The old priest walked to the podium before placing the book on it. "Welcome, children, and congratulations for making it through the first ten years of your life. Now you can start your progression through whatever classes you choose to dedicate your life to."
'Yeah, yeah, get to the unlocking part,' Molly thought impatiently, wondering how long this old man was going to drone on for.
"Before I unlock your systems, let me tell you the story of how the world and the system came to be as we know it."
"Ugh," Molly groaned quietly, feeling a bit impatient and figuring that it might take longer for her system to unlock than she thought it would.
"1905 years ago, the Goddess of Light Lysandriea and the God of Darkness Hydarious married and produced several children: the God of Fire, the Goddess of Water, the God of Earth, and the Goddess of Air. These are the original gods who, using their talents, created the world of Eridal and the many wonderful races and creatures within it, and blessed all intelligent life forms with the ability to access the system that allows mortals the chance to ascend to their level."
Tuning the priest out, Molly stared blankly at him, waiting for him to finish up his tirade on the importance of paying homage to the Gods and Goddesses who granted them life.
When she heard the priest mention something about the system being unlocked, she tuned back in.
"When I call your name, step forward and I will grant you access to the Gods and Goddesses' divine grace."
The priest began calling out names one at a time, with Molly watching impatiently as children walked away happy, telling their parents about the initial system skills that they had unlocked.
Once all the children had left, the priest finally called out, "Molly."
Excited, Molly got to her feet and made her way up to the podium to the grandfatherly old man who gave her a gentle smile.
"Close your eyes, child, and I will activate your system."
Following the priest's words, Molly tightly closed her eyes, happy when she felt a tingly sensation fill her body.

Opening her eyes, the status display and the list of general skills vanished, but she felt excited by the options, well, maybe not for the skills fire-starter and destruction magnet.
The priest smiled down at her. "I hope you find a class to devote yourself to that you find fulfilling."
Saying her goodbyes to the kind old priest, Molly made her way out of the cathedral. "Guess I should go find Max," she mused out loud, excited to go and tell Max all about the different general skills she had managed to unlock.
