Chapter 44 - A Date

The restaurant was intimate, nestled in one of the quieter parts of the city. Soft, warm lighting created an inviting atmosphere, while the gentle hum of conversation made it the perfect escape from the intensity that had consumed their lives. Isabella glanced around, still adjusting to the thought that this could be just a normal night-no plots, no strategies-just dinner.

Leon sat opposite her, a rare smile softening his usual stern expression. He was almost relaxed, though there was an alertness, even now, as some part of him was always ready to go into battle. But for tonight, that part was muffled enough for the man beneath the armor to shine through.

Isabella sipped her wine, the taste dancing on her tongue as she met Leon's gaze. "Strange, huh?"

"What?"

"Not being on edge, not knowing when the next threat will present itself and planning a counterstrike."
