Roxanne felt as if a bomb had exploded in her head; she felt like she was in a terrible nightmare. 'James is married? No, no, it's a lie. A very bad lie and a terrible joke.'
"Tell me this is a joke," she said, her voice barely audible in the vast expanse of the large hall, but it was still discernible.
"I have no reason to lie to you," he said in a serious tone.
"But you said you loved me, and you told me you'd give me time. You said you would always wait for me. Do you know what I did to be able to return to you? Do you know what I had to go through just so I could return to your side?" she asked hoarsely, her fists drumming on Don Gardner's chest in succession.
Don Gardner allowed her to vent; he felt he should allow her to cry, to let it all out. She would calm down eventually.
