Chapter 120 - C101(1)

"Mr. Lupine, the teaching time and content are as we mentioned in our letter yesterday. If you need a place to stay, we can arrange something."

"No, sir, I'll just stay at the Leaky Cauldron; it's close by, and it suits me just fine."

Remus Lupin hastily rejected Kain's offer. In fact, it was difficult for him to find a job due to his identity as a werewolf.

He had mentioned this when he wrote to Kain, but Kain had not rejected him and was still willing to hire him. This moved Remus. That's why he didn't want to put Kain in danger as his employer.

What's more, Kain's remuneration was very generous. As long as he taught for the vacation, he would have enough money to live until the end of the year.

During this period, he would have plenty of time to find another job.

"Headmaster Dumbledore, I haven't had a chance to thank you for your gift last time. Thank you for your willingness to give me the items from the Phoenix."

After Kain and Lupin finished discussing the matter, Kain smiled at Dumbledore.

Although he had bought the flesh and blood of the phoenix for 35,000 Galleons, no one would say something so crude. It was like saying you couldn't just pray to a god; you had to buy candles with money to show sincerity.

Dumbledore smiled and said, "Fawkes is very happy as well. But compared to those things, Mr. Pent has helped Hogwarts much more."

Kain was polite for a moment, then went straight to the point. "Then, Headmaster Dumbledore, why did you come to see me today?"

"In fact, it has something to do with Scamander. But I hope you can forgive him before we go further. Scamander mentioned something about you, and of course, it has something to do with me."

Dumbledore first explained for Newt. Without this explanation, Kain might wonder how Dumbledore knew about him.

"If you're interested in Hogwarts, Mr. Pent, I would like to invite you to become a trustee of Hogwarts and also the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."

At hearing this, both Kain and Lupin were surprised, and both wondered if they had heard it wrong. Meanwhile, Hermione, sitting quietly at the side, almost kicked off her shoes in excitement after hearing what Dumbledore had said.

'My godfather is going to be a professor at Hogwarts? Or the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts?'

Hermione didn't doubt Kain's strength at all, because over the past few days, she had come to realize that her godfather was someone extraordinary, with excellent spell-casting skills and profound magical power.

Once, during a duel with her godfather, he took a petrification spell from her without dodging, yet her spell had no effect on him, and he acted as if he had merely been blown by the wind.

Kain asked, puzzled, "Headmaster Dumbledore, why did you invite me? I don't seem to know much about Defense Against the Dark Arts. Even Mr. Lupin..."

"I can't, Mr. Pent, because you know that Hogwarts isn't suitable for me," Lupin quickly interrupted, shaking his head.

He explained that he had turned into a werewolf every year while attending Hogwarts. Back then, Sirius and James Potter had accompanied him. If he were to go to Hogwarts now, it would pose a great threat to the students—unless Dumbledore agreed to accompany him every time the moon was full.

"But my magic level..."

Dumbledore slightly interrupted and gestured for Kain to continue. "I'm sorry, Mr. Pent, but can I talk to you alone. Hermione, If you have any questions about spells, you can ask Mr. Lupin."

After he finished speaking, Kain led Dumbledore to the study.

Once inside, Dumbledore first praised the collection of books in the room before explaining the reason for his invitation.

The Purebloods were trying to use their influence on the School Board to sway Hogwarts' education. It seemed they had lobbied the Ministry of Magic to cut funding for Hogwarts, with the Board increasing its influence in the school as a result.

Although Dumbledore had no solid evidence, Cornelius Fudge still felt a bit wary of him.

Dumbledore's refusal to become Minister of Magic made Fudge uneasy, as he believed Dumbledore could reclaim the position at any time.

If it hadn't been for the 35,000 Galleons Kain had donated to Hogwarts last year, which gave Dumbledore more confidence in resisting the School Board, he might have had to compromise a lot more this year.

Hogwarts had many expenses, especially with the new students enrolling every year. Many Muggle-born students had secret subsidies from Hogwarts, making it easier for them to buy their wizarding supplies.

As for inviting Kain, that idea had also come from Scamander. Scamander had a magical intuition. After spending a few days with Kain, he could sense that Kain's approach was very different from that of the Death Eaters.
