As Monadias woke up, he smelled something tasty. He got up, and headed downstairs, where there were all tables taken, even people waiting outside. The tavern had a restaurant downstairs, hence the crowd, but it wasn't that crowded here yesterday. He went to the kitchen, following the delightful scent. He found the owner watching over as Handeron was mixing up something. They were talking.
- And then, you add some of this, and a pinch of that, and then you fry it.
- Is that really it? And is it really that cheap?
- Yes, try it yourself, Madam.
As she had a bite of somethink looking like a omlette, you could see her enjoying every bit of it.
- It's so good!
- Told you. You should probably start making a big portion now, the guest are waiting.
- Thank you very much, young man!
- No problem, and also, could you give me some ingredients? There is one more person I have to make breakfast for.
He was looking at Monadias saying that. He approached him, shook his hand, and Monadias asked.
- Couldn't you make a portion for me earlier?
- The landlady ate it as soon as she came here while I was cooking something for myself, and insisted I show her how to do it. As I was cooking, a bunch of people came asking what smells so good, and they also wanted some. In all of this, I forgot to make you one once more. But I will make it now, so sit and wait.
- How do you even cook so well?
- I don't cook well, I just can cook. Food here for people is to just fill their hunger. Maybe somewhere in a larger city there are fine restaurants, where my cooking comes as very basic, but here things are different.
- Maybe I should have learned cooking....
As Monadias ate the breakfast, they left the tavern, did their respective trainings outside the borders of the city, and through the tips from citizens, arrived in the local Adventurers Guild. They entered, and not soon later were greeted by recepcionist. She looked at them, and waved her hand for them to come closer.
- Hello. You don't look familiar, so you probably are from another Adventurers Guild?
- Nope, we want to sign up.
- Ooh, then just give me your documemts, and you will be assigned a rank. You start from the Regular, but since you two already have weapons, we can get straight to potential matching. There are four levels of weapon users, and each have a rank. Low level is a person with potential from 1% to 30%, Medium levels are those ranging from 31% to 60%, High level is those that have 61% to 84% and the highest rank is the Weapon Master equalling 85% or higher. I will lead you to our administrator. She is the one that will evaluate your ranks. Come with me, please.
They headed upstairs, where was a corridor. The administrator's office was the last one on the left. As they were passing rooms, each marked with a number and a small sign with what the room had inside, like for example "Magazine 1", "Social room", "Locker room", they soon enough arrived at the door, with the Adventurers Guild symbol on it. The recepcionist knocked on the door twice, and opened it.
- Miss Slaine, I have two newcoming adventurers here, that need their ranks assesed. Can I let them in now?
- That dam....Oh, yes let them in.
They entered a room, looking like a normal office, with a desk and a window behind it. The door closed behind them, and they saw a woman, around her thirties, sitting in a chair, looking at some papers behind the desk. Her hair white, long to her shoulders. Her eyes, the same colour as her hair, pulling the one looking too close inside even more. She was dressed in a black jacket, made out of leather. She also had a shirt, white one, and black pants, that were probably from the same material as the jacket. As Monadias was looking at her clothes, she said:
- Great Lizard's skin. Good as a clothing material, that also needs to be an armor. Newest collection from the Caipitil.
They stayed silent at that. As she stood up and started walking around them, she asked:
- Where did you two even came from, dressed in old rags like that?
- We arrived recently, we had no time to dress, because we wanted to register first.
- You have drops of sweat on you. Did you sleep, train and then came here in this outfit?
- Yep.
- You are joking. Three fourth of your first impression is the outfit you have. And you came here, to talk with me, in something like this?
- Yep, so?
- That's really rude. What is your name, handsome face?
- Monadias.
- Watch your mouth next time and answer questions nicely.
Monadias wasn't threatened by her response. Handeron then said.
- Yes, we came here dressed like that, we will get us something nice after we take care of the registration process. Now, can we please continue, Madam? We would like to emerge on adventure as fast as we can.
- Now, that is a composed man. You don't have a face as handsome as this guy, but it's not so bad. Instead you really have the height, and muscles. I like you.
Handeron was a little taken off-guard by her statement. She then pointed to a green gem on the desk, carved inside it, that only it's half was peeking out. The gem started glowing a little.
- That is what calculates the potentail you have with your weapon. You two both have ones, but you probably don't know how much potential you have with them, so we will check that out.
As she said that, she opened a chest, long and big, and took out of it a greatsword. It had red coloured marks on it. As she had it and approached the crystal, she said.
- All you need to do is to have a part of your weapon in your one hand, while the other touches the green gem. If it says a number, you take off your hand from it.
She then put her hand on the gem. After 10 seconds or so, it said a number.
- Eighty seven!
She then looked over at them, looking for a reaction, but they were silemt, and had poker faces. She then asked:
- Didn't the receptionist tell you about the percentage and what it means?
- She did.
- So why do you stay silent? You should be like: "Wow, that's huge! or something like: "I have a long way to go...".
- Oh, should we?
As Monadias stood up and took his bow into the right hand, he placed his hand on the gem.
Seventy four!
She then looked at him and she raised her eyebrow a little.
- Is the gem at low battery or something, that is says something like that? You couldn't be 74%, that should take you... okay, maybe you are, but is there a way that nobody heard about you before you came here?
- We both lived in the mountains. We recently left them, about 3 days ago, and now we are here. We had our weapons for nearly all of our lives, so it's not really that unimaginable.
As Monadias said that, it was Handerons turn.
- Should I put it with my gauntlet on?
- Take one off and grab it with your other hand. The other one can stay as it is.
- Okay.
He then did as she said, and put his hand on the gem.
0%
The room fell silent. As Monadias realizes what happened, he started laughing as hard as he could.
- Bro, you probably shattered a record with that, hahah!
- Shut it.
Slaine was quite shocked at this. There was nobody that had 0% potential with a weapon they had. There was always at least 1%, that was the mark that you even have a weapon and can swing it. But he, even when doing this with both gauntlets in hands, showed 0%.
- I will need to send that to the Adventurers Guild Headquarters in the Caipitil. This is a first time in history, and... probably a record holder.
- Bahahah.
Handeron was a little emberassed by what happened, but it was probably due to Monadias's laugh. As they left the Adventurers Guild, Monadias had his card, with the High rank and a paper with a written mission on it, while Handeron's case was on it's way to the HQ. They left, and soon arrived at a clothes shop, splitting the money they had. It was quite modern. The sign said: National Laboratory Official Outfits. On a note on the door, it was explained that they are from the capital, and were made through the national known scientists work, to be a perfect fit for anybody. As they entered it, they picked what they needed. Monadias used all the money he could, buying three different complets of clothes, while Handeron only bought what he needed: some basic clothes and such.
- Don't you need something for fighting?
- I have armor when I use the gauntlets.
- Lucky.
- The clothes here really are something else, they resemble things from our world.
- Yeah. Anyways, where are we going after this?
- We... I mean, you took a mission in the mountains, so we should do this, of course after we eat something nice.
- You better not cook anything or you will be known for being a premium chef, not a hero.
- Yeah, we should try something here.
As they paid and left the shop, they passed a
crowd of people watching a dancer in the market they were located in. She had brown, long hair and a white robe covering all of her. She was dancing while throwing two fans, that came back to her everytime.
- Do you think she is cute?
- Nope. I like them as tall as me.
As they were leaving after watching for a while, they got through the crowd and passed a man, older one, standing alongside a young beastwoman. Monadias then heard something.
[Help me... please...]
It was a girls voice. Monadias knew whose was it. He instantly grabbed the man's hand.
- Hey, what do you think you are doing? Don't you see I am one of the nobility?
- What are you doing to her?
- What a non-nobility aren't allowed to do, now get lost, kid! Khg, can't even relax on vacation...
The older guy then pushed Monadias's hand off him, and left the place. The beastwoman followed him, and voices could be heard again.
[Help me, please, don't give up!]
It was echoing through his head, like he was in a tunnel, and she was faintly talking.
Monadias then dashed in front of the girl, and looked into her eyes. She had white hair, blue eyes and she resembled some kind of a cat. Her tail long, weirdly immobile and her hands with cut off claws.
- Move along, whore!
- Yes, master.
She ignored Monadias and went after the older man.
But Monadias didn't care, and grabbed the beatswoman. He put her in front of him, and said:
Eyes of the all-seeing.
His eyes glowing with green colour. As he looked at her neck, some weird red letters could be seen. He then put his hand on her throat, and rubbed it a little, creating a wind current. He then felt like he was going to puke, and wind started to get stronger around them. The older man tried stopping him, but he was unable to because of the strength that wind had. Suddenly, all of the wind around flew inside Monadias hand, and it was transferred to the girl. As the wind was flowing inside her skin, it disrupted the red letters circling around her neck. When they were gone, they flew away with the wind. The girl then passed out, and fell into his arms.
- What do you think you are doing? Guards, arrest this man, he attacked my wife!
The crowd circled them, and a voice came from somebody.
- Let her go, she is a property of that man!
The girl, that was earlier dancing, had taken off her robe, and shown a battlesuit, which had a logo of some sort on it. She then took both of her fans in her hand, and took up a battling stance.
Handeron then emerged from the crowd, grabbed the beastwoman, and told Monadias.
- Go on.
Monadias then took his bow, and was ready to engage.
