As soon as Tang Tiantian took a bite, she spat it out immediately. "What is this disgusting thing? If I gave this to Brother Fu, it would poison him!"
Without wasting another second, she marched over to the trash can, ready to toss the plate of pastries. However, just as she was about to dump them, she hesitated.
Wait, she thought. Throwing them away would be such a waste.
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. She smirked as she began adding a little something extra to the pastries.
Half an hour later, there was a knock at Fu Hanyan's study door.
Tang Tiantian nervously walked in, holding the plate of altered pastries. "Brother Fu, these are the ones Gu Yining made to replace the ones she ate earlier. Maybe you'd like to try them?" She placed the plate on his desk, eyes flicking between him and the pastries.
Hearing that they were made by Gu Yining, Fu Hanyan's gaze lifted slightly. His eyes landed on the unsightly pastries, confirming what he already suspected—they were unmistakably her creation.
"If you don't want them, I can take them away and make a new batch for you," Tang Tiantian said, already reaching for the plate.
"Leave them and go," Fu Hanyan said, not bothering to look up as he continued typing on his laptop. The golden afternoon sunlight filtered through the window, casting a glow over his tall, handsome figure.
Tang Tiantian stood there, unable to tear her eyes away from him.
"Still here?" Fu Hanyan's sharp gaze swept over her.
Startled, Tang Tiantian hurriedly turned to leave. "I'm going, Brother Fu! I'm going!"
Meanwhile, Gu Yining was in her room, pulled into a couple of rounds of gaming with her friend Xiao Xiao. The urgent pounding on her door startled her, and she quickly put her phone down, removing her headphones. "Just a sec!"
"Don't you dare leave me hanging, Ning Ning! If you disconnect now, I'm totally doomed!" Xiao Xiao shouted through the in-game voice chat.
But it was too late—Gu Yining's character stood idle, and she had already left the game.
As Gu Yining opened the door, Aunt Chen was standing there, her face filled with concern. "Young Madam, something terrible has happened. It's the Young Master…"
"What happened to him?" Gu Yining asked, her heart skipping a beat at Aunt Chen's urgent expression.
"He's feeling unwell—his stomach is acting up, and he's sweating profusely. He's already lying down in his room. You should go check on him right away."
"Got it."
Without a second thought, Gu Yining rushed back to her room, grabbed her medical kit, and bolted out. She didn't even bother with her phone, leaving Xiao Xiao behind in the game without a second glance.
In the game, Xiao Xiao, who was playing a support role, was left vulnerable without Gu Yining's attack damage character to back her up. Their opponents quickly took advantage, relentlessly targeting her and the now-immobile Gu Yining's character.
"Argh, Ning Ning, you traitor! You left me to die! You… you're ditching me for that husband of yours!" Xiao Xiao's voice echoed furiously through Gu Yining's abandoned headset, though no one was around to hear it.
In Fu Hanyan's master bedroom, he was propped up against the headboard, his laptop balanced on his lap. His fingers moved quickly over the keys, typing out important work emails. Despite the beads of sweat forming on his forehead and his pale complexion, he continued working as if nothing were wrong.
"What's going on?" Gu Yining asked, setting her medical kit down beside the bed.
"It's just a little stomach discomfort," Fu Hanyan said briefly, not wanting to make a big deal out of it.
The truth was, after eating two of the pastries she had made in the study earlier, his stomach had started acting up. It was likely indigestion—or perhaps his sensitive stomach just couldn't handle her experimental baking.
But he didn't mention that the pastries were to blame.
"Give me your hand," Gu Yining instructed.
"I just need to finish this email first." Fu Hanyan's eyes stayed fixed on the laptop screen as he rapidly typed out a stream of fluent English.
"What's more important—your health or your work?" Gu Yining scolded, her tone growing sharp with frustration.
