The next day, Gu Yicing woke up later than usual. With classes scheduled for the third and fourth periods, she only needed to make it to school by ten. By the time she got out of bed, washed up, and dressed, it was already past nine. Fu Hannian had left for work long before.
Taking a taxi to work every day was somewhat inconvenient, and she recalled seeing a variety of top-tier luxury cars filling the Fu family garage the other day.
She had been eyeing those cars for a while now, but she had hesitated to ask Fu Hannian if she could borrow one. Buying a car herself felt extravagant, especially since she wanted to save her money for more important things.
As she sat alone at the dining table eating breakfast, Gu Yicing sent a message to Fu Hannian on WeChat, tentatively asking, "Could I borrow a car from your garage to drive to school?"
She thought he probably wouldn't respond, but it was worth a try. After putting her phone down, she resumed eating her breakfast.
A couple of minutes later, her phone pinged.
"Have the butler take you to choose one."
Surprised at his unexpectedly agreeable response, Gu Yicing quickly finished her breakfast and went to find the butler.
Meanwhile, in a conference room on one of the higher floors of the company, Fu Hannian was busy responding to messages on his phone while the executives around him were discussing various topics. His lips curled into a slight smile, which caught the attention of those present. It was unusual for the CEO to be on his phone during a meeting or show any signs of amusement.
Fu Hannian rarely used WeChat, preferring text messages for business communications. He had only signed up for WeChat because Li Feng insisted it was essential to stay current and not fall behind the times.
Most of the contacts he had added were close friends. However, he was puzzled about how Gu Yicing managed to add him, especially since her profile was full of her selfies.
Curiosity piqued, he clicked into her Moments to see what a twenty-year-old girl would typically post.
The first post he saw darkened his expression immediately.
"Love is a light that makes you uneasy," accompanied by a photo of several plates filled with vibrant green vegetables.
What was this woman trying to imply?
Without hesitation, he took a screenshot of the post and sent it to Gu Yicing, demanding, "What do you mean by this? You'd better explain honestly, or don't even think about driving away with any car from the Fu family."
Having just selected a white Maserati from the garage, Gu Yicing was preparing to take it for a spin when she saw his message and nearly dropped her phone in shock.
To save her precious Maserati, she quickly typed a response: "That post was just a complaint I made the day your housekeeper was feeding me like a rabbit. I was hoping you'd see it and feel sorry for me, maybe even treat me to a nice meal! I swear, I didn't mean anything else…"
Just as she was about to elaborate, the call abruptly ended.
She hadn't even finished her explanation.
Meanwhile, Chen Ma received a call from Fu Hannian.
"Is there anything you need from me, young master?" she asked.
"It's time to change the water for the villa's maid," he instructed.
"Understood, young master. I'll take care of it right away," Chen Ma replied promptly.
Gu Yicing drove the Maserati to school, arriving a bit late. Since she was running out of time, she could only find a seat in the front row.
Mu Zuocheng had saved a spot for her and waved her over as soon as she entered the classroom, indicating for her to sit next to him.
However, Gu Yicing pretended not to see him and deliberately chose to sit in the front row instead.
She and Mu Zuocheng had differing values; he was kind-hearted but overly indecisive. She felt that his pristine nature would be at odds with the tumultuous path her life would soon take. It was best to maintain some distance between them for both their sakes, to avoid complicating matters.
Mu Zuocheng's hand hung awkwardly in the air for a moment before he let it drop, disappointment evident on his face.
She was still upset with him, after all.
