Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: She's Not Weak at All

Grandpa Fu was entirely indifferent to the ugly behavior of the Gu family. His only concern was that his grandson had finally gotten married.

The Gu family was in disarray, chaos reigning in their wake. Meanwhile, Fu Hanning confidently embraced Gu Yicing as they made their dramatic exit.

Before leaving, he didn't forget to deliver a biting remark aimed at Gu Wenxuan and the others: "Fu Tai Tai is delicate and sensitive; do not trouble her in the future. Otherwise, don't blame me for settling accounts with you personally."

Gu Wenxuan felt a surge of frustration, nearly clawing at the walls in rage. "Delicate? What a load of nonsense! She's anything but weak. She's like a deadly scorpion ready to sting!"

As Grandpa Fu left with the marriage certificate tucked safely away, he followed Fu Hanning and Gu Yicing out of the Gu residence.

Upon reaching the car, Grandpa Fu pulled Gu Yicing into his vehicle.

"Hanning, I'd like to borrow your wife for a moment to have a chat," he said, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.

Fu Hanning remained silent, indicating his approval but added a caveat: "We're not going back to the old house."

"Understood. We'll head to the mansion. We're all going back to the mansion together," Grandpa Fu replied, surprisingly compliant with Fu Hanning's wishes.

On the drive back, Fu Hanning took the Maybach, while Gu Yicing climbed into the same vehicle as Grandpa Fu.

Once inside, Grandpa Fu took out the marriage certificate, comparing Gu Yicing's face with the picture on it. After a moment, he carefully put the certificate back in his pocket. "To prevent you two from divorcing, I'll temporarily keep this marriage certificate safe for you," he declared with a grin.

"Grandpa, I'm so ugly—don't you dislike me? You don't think I'm unworthy of Fu Hanning, do you? And you haven't even asked how I ended up with him. Or why I treated my family the way I did just now? Someone like me, you probably wouldn't like, right?" Gu Yicing couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at the elder's good-natured demeanor.

The truth was harsh, and she feared Grandpa Fu wouldn't take it well.

"Looks can be deceiving; a pretty face is everywhere, but an interesting soul is rare. If my grandson chose you, it means you're exceptional. I trust his judgment and will support it unconditionally. He's nearly thirty; the matter of marriage has been a constant worry for me. Now that he's taken the initiative to marry you, I couldn't be happier!" Grandpa Fu said, radiating joy like a child.

Gu Yicing was genuinely taken aback.

She had heard that Grandpa Fu had low expectations for Fu Hanning's partner, but today, she truly witnessed just how low those expectations were. As long as he was marrying a woman, the old man was satisfied.

"Grandpa, could you tell me why you're so eager for Fu Hanning to get married? And why do you have such low standards for his partner?"

Her curiosity got the better of her, prompting her to seek clarity.

"Oh, that's a long story. When Hanning had his first love, I was extremely dissatisfied with her and refused to let him marry her. At that time, he was still young, just graduated from university. I wanted him to focus on inheriting the Fu family business. But that girl couldn't handle the pressure and tragically jumped into the sea to end her life."

"So, he became reluctant to engage with women and publicly declared himself to be gay?" Gu Yicing surmised.

"Over the years, he may have outwardly moved on, but I suspect he still harbors some resentment towards me. He used his supposed homosexuality as a shield to keep all women at bay and has been vehemently opposed to marriage. I know his claim of being gay is a façade, yet no girl has been able to penetrate that wall he built around himself. I sometimes wonder if he genuinely believes he is gay now. Do you know how delighted I was when I heard you two were getting married?"

As he spoke, tears shimmered in Grandpa Fu's weary eyes, revealing the pain and longing hidden beneath his jovial exterior.

This revelation stirred something deep within Gu Yicing, and she felt a rush of compassion for the old man. It was clear that beneath his whimsical demeanor lay a profound sadness stemming from past experiences. She began to understand the weight of the expectations that rested on Fu Hanning's shoulders and felt more determined than ever to navigate this complicated family dynamic with grace and strength.

The road ahead might be challenging, but she was resolute in proving her worth—not just to the Fu family but to herself as well.
