Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Kyle didn't know much about Stella, Cedric's future girlfriend and Harry Potter's unrequited love, and he hadn't really interacted with her. All he knew was that she was in Ravenclaw.

Now, he learned one more thing about her—she was helpful.

After all, not every Ravenclaw would go out of their way to help others. They tended to prefer immersing themselves in their own world, focused on studies or other matters. This didn't mean Ravenclaws were cold, they just had different personalities. If someone asked them for help, they would usually assist.

In short, they didn't initiate, but they didn't refuse either.

Stella was chatting with her friends, so Kyle only glanced at her briefly before looking away.

"This is only the first class. What should I do next? I can't leave an hour early every time," Mikel groaned beside him, tugging at his hair in frustration. "If this keeps up, I'll be late eventually."

"Don't worry," Kyle said, patting his friend's shoulder. "Professors at Hogwarts won't expel students for being late. At most, they'll deduct some points." Then, he smiled and added, "Besides, I have something that might help."

"What's that?" Mikel and Ryan leaned in curiously.

Kyle pulled out a map and spread it on the table. "Thank Cedric for this. Without it, you'd be lost again."

"Is this... a map of Hogwarts?" Mikel was still puzzled, but Ryan, who had a wizard father, immediately recognized it. "Where did you get this? Can I make a copy? I promise to give it back after class."

"Of course, we're roommates!" Kyle said with a nod, then turned to Mikel. "Do you want a copy too?"

Mikel was tempted but shook his head after thinking it over. "I don't want to waste time copying it during such an important class as Charms. Can I wait until after class?"

Kyle nodded. "Sure, no problem."

He then tapped his wand on the map and muttered, "Duplicate." A second identical map instantly appeared on the table.

Kyle checked it and, satisfied, handed it to Mikel. "Here you go. The magic should last for about a week. You can copy it anytime you want."

Mikel took the map with a bewildered look, glancing at Ryan, who seemed equally confused.

Ryan was at a loss. He stared at Kyle, then at the parchment in front of him, feeling his face flush. Just as he was about to speak, a voice came from in front of them.

"Nice copying spell, five points to Hufflepuff!"

Kyle jumped, looking up in surprise, and saw Stella sitting across from him. Then he realized the voice was coming from someone standing near the table—a short figure who had been hidden by the table's height.

"Thank you for the compliment, Professor Flitwick," Kyle said.

Flitwick smiled warmly. "Just telling the truth, Mr. Chopper, right?"

"Yes, Professor," Kyle nodded.

"Glad my memory serves me well," Flitwick said, then turned to Mikel. "May I see the map?"

At first, Mikel didn't realize who the small wizard in front of him was, but when he heard Kyle say the name "Professor Flitwick," he quickly handed over the map.

Flitwick examined the map briefly before returning it with a nod of approval. "The magic is quite stable. If nothing unexpected happens, the copy will last until noon, eight days from now."

With a wink, he added to Kyle, "If the final exam were on the Copying Spell, I'd definitely give you an Outstanding. But for now, I'll just give Hufflepuff another three points."

"Professor!" a Ravenclaw student called out. "Can't items made with the Copying Spell exist permanently?"

"No, Miss Mittal," Flitwick explained. "If copies lasted forever, you wouldn't see so many parchments in the shop windows of Men of Letters."

"Can even Professor Dumbledore make them last forever?" asked another student.

"Unfortunately not," Flitwick shook his head. "Even if the headmaster can make a replica last for a hundred years or more, it still won't be permanent."

"Alright, that's enough about the Copying Spell for now. Let's start today's lesson."

Flitwick stepped onto his desk and addressed the class. "Today, we're learning the Illumination Spell, one of the most basic spells. The incantation is 'Lumos.' Watch carefully..."

Kyle wasn't surprised they were learning the Illumination Spell in their first Charms class. It was the simplest and most straightforward spell in the magical world.

There was no need to worry about wand movements. As long as you were a wizard, had a wand, and could speak, you could cast it. In fact, in earlier times, the Illumination Spell was used to distinguish wizards from Squibs with almost 100% accuracy.

If someone couldn't cast the spell, it meant they weren't a wizard.

Given how easy it was, Professor Flitwick briefly demonstrated the spell, then let the students practice on their own.

Soon, little points of light began flickering around the classroom—some bright, some dim, some steady, some flickering.

Though Kyle wasn't the first to cast it, his light was stable, shining steadily like an electrified bulb, casting a soft white glow.

Unfortunately, there were no extra points for this.

Kyle wasn't the only one who could cast the spell successfully. Several Ravenclaws had also managed to produce steady light from their wands.

On the Hufflepuff side, there were fewer students who succeeded, but the gap wasn't too large.

"Stay calm and don't panic," Professor Flitwick reminded them sharply. "Pronounce the incantation clearly and focus."

Following his advice, more and more students began producing steady, glowing light.

Kyle glanced at his two roommates, who were still struggling to get it right.
