Chapter 3 - Awakening

As Kain got dragged through the portal he felt his body in intense pain once again. His body twisted, turned and seemed to even fold into himself.

He screamed the entire way through, though it was as though no sound was ever created in the first place. It seemed that this place was devoid of even sound.

As he travelled through the portal, he saw random flashes of memory; Him eating ice cream alongside his sister, taking an exam in fourth grade, random pictures and scenes from his life transitioned from one to another in a seemingly random pattern.

However, he also saw images of scenes not from life; A man fighting a giant worm, a comet flying through the skies, An owl sitting on top of a bookshelf filled with books, A globe of ice that seemed to glow. As he travelled the transitions became faster and faster, until he could only see a blur of color.

Suddenly, the images stopped, and Kain stared up at a cloudless, blue sky.

He felt his freefall stop as he landed on a cold, smooth ground. He felt frigid air hit his body as he felt the cold. However, unlike the pictures his pain did not go away.

'I-Is it over?' He thought while slowly smiling, 'It's finally over'

He tried to move any part of his body but his body betrayed him as not a single body part of his moved. It seemed that he had reached his limit as his eyes closed.

Before he passed out from the pain however, he heard a voice from afar.

"Maroq, look! There's a person laying on the ground"

***

Kain came to. He felt that what he was laying on now was far softer than where he had been dropped. He also realized that there was something on top of him. He also felt that his body was no longer freezing, even though he still felt cold.

As he opened his eyes he saw that the object on top of him was a blue blanket, made out of fur.

He looked around and saw that he was in a ice-blue colored room with a door opposite to him. He saw a wooden drawer to the right of what he assumed was a bed that he was laying on. On the left he saw a small bookshelf filled with books bound by a blue cover.

Above the bookshelf was a stand holding two swords. Slightly above that stand was a decapitated head of a polar bear.

'Where... am I?' Kain thought to himself. Before he could do anything else however, he suddenly remembered what had happened to him.

'That system, what it said was real?' Kain sat up on the bed, 'If what it said was truly real, then that means I must have travelled to the world of avatar.'

He looked around the room again once more. "Then this is a water tribe house? It must be, no other nation would use this color scheme for their houses. So the system sent me to the water nation because of the bending I chose? Or would it have sent me here regardless?'

He thought for a second before calling out, "System"

Nothing happened.

His brows furrowed as he called out, "Panel"

Seeing that nothing happened again, He sighed exasperatedly before falling back onto the bed. 'Seems like that system really did shut down. Why did I have to be stuck with the useless system.'

He sighed again before starting to think of a plan, 'To go home I need to complete the tasks the system gave me? The easiest there is obviously to master waterbending. I would need to do that to even try completing any of the other tasks anyways.'

'After that would be to defeat Fire lord Ozai. Would it count if the avatar did it for me? No, the system told me to kill Ozai. It wouldn't count because Aang would not have killed Ozai. So I have to do it myself.'

'That's not even considering the third task. How am I supposed to kill Vaatu if he only comes back in the Legend of Korra? Am I supposed to fight him when I'm an old man?'

His thoughts were suddenly interrupted as he saw the door in front of him open. Behind the door stood a woman.

The woman had a thin stature yet was quite tall. She had black eyes and silver hair. She was wearing a blue water tribe dress and had two golden earrings that looked like they had diamonds imbedded in them.

The woman's expression turned from calm to shocked as she saw that he was awake. She suddenly turned her head and shouted, "Honey! Your guest is awake."

Kain suddenly heard rushed footsteps as a man appeared next to the woman. He was a burly man with brown hair and black eyes with multiple scars across his body, giving him the look of a veteran warrior. He was wearing blue water tribe clothes with brown boots.

The man looked at him before saying, "Ah, you're finally awake. You were passed out for quite a while kid. About two days were you sleeping there. I thought that you might've never woken up at all"

Kain became shocked as he digested the man's words, 'I was passed out for two days? I didn't think that was humanly possible... then again I guess a lot of impossible things have happened to me so far.'

He looked at the man before asking him, "What's the date?"

The man looked at him saying, "Its April 16th." seeing that Kain still hadn't said anything yet, he added "98th AG."

Kain took a deep breath, 'So I've been sent here two years before Aang awakens. That gives me quite a lot of time to prepare.'

Seeing that Kain hadn't said anything else the man sat down next to him before saying, "Well then, lets start off with introductions, I am Maroq and this here is my wife Quiella." He said pointing in her direction as she gave a friendly wave, "How about you? What's your name"

Kain hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "Kain, Kain Owen."
