Eren's POV.
Eren crouched on a thick branch of a towering Oak, his new bow slung over his shoulder and his sharp elven ears twitching as they picked up even the faintest rustle of leaves below. The woods surrounding Sacred Roots were alive tonight, brimming with the sounds of nocturnal creatures and the distant hum of the wind weaving through the trees.
Yet, none of it distracted Eren. He could separate the important noises from the background, focusing solely on his target, a snake slithering cautiously in the underbrush.
His breath stilled, his hands steady as he drew an arrow from his quiver. It was a simple task, something he had done a few times since he became a defender.
But tonight felt different. The memory of his sister's excited voice echoed in his head.
"Eren, you're just like Edward! Do you think you'll be as famous as him someday?"
