Phoenix's head throbbed as she came to, the sharp pain in her skull pulsing with each beat of her heart. Her wrists and legs burned, the weight of heavy, cold chains pressing against her skin.
She opened her eyes slowly, her vision adjusting to the dim, flickering light of what appeared to be a cell. The damp, musty smell of the place assaulted her senses, bringing back memories she had spent years trying to bury.
She was locked up. Again.
Her breathing quickened, and panic threatened to rise as she shifted against the chains that held her in place. The rough texture of stone walls and the metallic clink of her restraints sent her mind spiralling back ten years.
But this wasn't then. She was stronger now. She wasn't helpless anymore.
