Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Cleaning, Catching Fish, Cooking

After carrying Liu Rusi into her room, an even stronger smell of alcohol hit Ling Feng's nose.

On the floor, there were seven or eight wine jars scattered around.

Ling Feng laid Liu Rusi on her bed but wasn't sure what to do next. Glancing around at the mess in the wooden cabin, he sighed deeply and began to clean.

After all, this was his home now too.

His master might be messy and careless, but he couldn't live like that.

He gathered up the wine jars and set them outside. Then he organized the clothes, cleaned the cabinets, swept the floors, and mopped…

Ling Feng's busy figure moved around the cabin. After a while, he wiped the sweat from his forehead. "I didn't expect this wooden cabin to look small from the outside, but it's pretty spacious. It could easily fit seven or eight people."

Once the cleaning was done, Ling Feng sat down to rest.

[Ding!]

[The system has detected that you just completed a thorough cleaning. The system is deeply moved by your hard work and rewards you with a skill scroll.]

A vision of an ancient parchment appeared in Ling Feng's mind, filled with mysterious runes.

"A skill scroll? What does this do?" Ling Feng asked curiously.

[A skill scroll allows you to designate a target and randomly extract one of their skills.]

"Really? That's amazing!" Ling Feng was surprised, then glanced over at the sleeping Liu Rusi.

Even though she seemed unreliable, she was still a direct disciple of Baiyun Sect and was undoubtedly powerful. Surely she had some useful skills.

With that in mind, Ling Feng took out the skill scroll and directed it toward Liu Rusi.

"Use."

[Using skill scroll…]

[Randomly extracting a skill from the target…]

[Congratulations, you've obtained the skill 'Sword Heart of Clarity'.]

Suddenly, Ling Feng felt a unique power surge within him, and his mind became much clearer.

"Sword Heart of Clarity? That sounds impressive."

[Sword Heart of Clarity is a powerful swordsmanship talent. Those who possess it can quickly comprehend various sword techniques, applying them with ease and even innovating and improving them.]

"Isn't that like a cheat for swordsmanship?" Ling Feng was astonished. He glanced at Liu Rusi again.

With such a remarkable skill, she could have easily become the top sword master in the world, admired by millions.

Yet she didn't.

Instead, she became infamous as a gambler and drunkard.

What could have happened to her?

Ling Feng couldn't help but feel that his master was shrouded in mystery.

Just then…

Grumble…

His stomach started to growl.

He was hungry.

Looking around the kitchen in the cabin, he saw that besides a bit of rice in the rice bin, there was no other food—no vegetables, no meat.

"I can't go hungry. When I was on the way up the mountain, I think I saw a river nearby. I'll catch some fish and gather some wild vegetables."

Muttering to himself, Ling Feng jogged down to the river.

The water was crystal clear. He scooped up a handful and drank it. It was cold and sweet.

"No wonder this is a martial sect's territory. Even the river water tastes this good. I'll use this water to cook later," he chuckled as he spotted some fish swimming in the river.

Rolling up his pant legs and sleeves, Ling Feng slowly waded into the water, moving cautiously before suddenly lunging at a fish.

Splash!

Water splashed everywhere, soaking his clothes, and he missed the fish. But Ling Feng didn't give up and kept trying.

After dozens of attempts, he still hadn't caught a single fish.

"Maybe I'm doing this wrong?" Ling Feng scratched his chin, then glanced at some tree branches on the shore. His eyes lit up.

"I've got it."

He quickly ran ashore, found a suitable branch, and pulled out a knife from the cabin's kitchen—a vegetable knife he had brought just in case.

It was finally going to be useful.

Ling Feng sharpened one end of the branch with the knife.

Now he had a simple fish spear.

Feeling more confident, he waded back into the water with his spear.

Taking a deep breath, his gaze sharpened as he focused on the fish swimming nearby. Suddenly, he struck with the spear!

Whoosh!

The spear pierced a fish!

Ling Feng smiled and tossed the fish onto the shore.

He repeated the process and caught a few more fish.

[Ding!]

[The system has detected that the host has successfully caught fish through their own efforts. Your perseverance is admirable, and the system is proud. As a reward, you've been granted Master-Level Cooking Skills.]

Suddenly, a vast array of culinary knowledge flooded Ling Feng's mind.

Frying, steaming, boiling, braising, roasting…

Looking at the fish on the ground, dozens of recipes instantly came to mind.

"Too bad the kitchen doesn't have many seasonings."

Ling Feng muttered to himself.

He carefully stored the fish and planned to go down the mountain to pick some wild vegetables.

After gathering the wild vegetables, his stomach growled even more.

[Ding!]

[The system has detected that the host has finished picking wild vegetables. What a diligent young man! Rewarding the host with a complete set of Master-Level Seasonings!]

Ling Feng blinked in surprise. "Really? This works too?!"

He returned to the wooden cabin and began cooking.

Before long, the kitchen was filled with mouth-watering aromas.

Liu Rusi, who was still asleep, awoke to the delicious smell and sat up.

Her hair was messy, and she looked around in confusion. "Is this… still my home?"

"Why does it suddenly look so clean?"

When she glanced over at Ling Feng, who was busy in the kitchen, she was even more bewildered.

"Who is this? Why is there someone else in my house?"

"Hey, Master, you're awake! Just in time for dinner!" Ling Feng smiled, carrying the last dish to the table.

It was a plate of braised fish.

The bright colors and enticing aroma made Liu Rusi's mouth water. She swallowed hard, then frowned and asked, "Who are you, and why are you calling me 'Master'? Why are you in my home?"

Ling Feng was taken aback. Why was his Master suddenly acting like she didn't know him?

"Master, I'm Ling Feng, your newly accepted disciple!"

He quickly explained the situation again.

As Liu Rusi listened, some images began to flash through her mind.

It seemed that… she really did accept a disciple.

"Damn it, this is all the result of drinking too much! I mindlessly accepted a disciple," Liu Rusi grumbled, scratching her head in annoyance.

She looked at Ling Feng and said, "Let me make this clear. I don't want a disciple. What 'Martial Dao Saint Body'? I'm a reincarnated immortal. Why would I want one? Tomorrow, I'll go find the Sect Leader and ask him to take you away. You can become his disciple instead."

Becoming the Sect Leader's disciple…

That didn't sound too bad.

But Elder Li had said that decisions made by the Sect Leader were usually not changed easily.

Ling Feng wasn't sure if Liu Rusi could actually manage to do that.

"Let's not discuss this for now, Master. Let's eat first."

"Hm, did you make all this food? And you cleaned up the place too?" Liu Rusi glanced at Ling Feng with curiosity.

Ling Feng looked around and asked, "Is there anyone else here besides Master and me?"

"You're quite diligent," Liu Rusi mumbled before starting to eat.

She picked up a piece of fish with her chopsticks and, the next moment, her beautiful eyes widened in shock.

"This… this is delicious!!"

Her eyes sparkled as she stared at the food, rapidly eating one piece of fish after another. Ling Feng felt a pang of anxiety watching her; he was still hungry!

He quickly joined her in the feast.

They soon started bickering.

"Hey, Master, I had my eye on the fish head first!"

"Whoever gets to it first wins!"

"Do you even understand how to show respect to your elders? You're hogging such a big fish all to yourself!"

"I need to fill my stomach first so I have the energy to show you respect!"
