Chapter 47 - Magic shop

The Hoburns's magic shop was a treasure trove of wonders, each aisle more fascinating than the last. Lelei, her eyes shining with intellectual curiosity, trailed her fingers along a shelf lined with spellbooks bound in exotic leathers. Tuka, easily distracted by anything sparkly, was currently enthralled by a display of enchanted earrings that changed color with the wearer's mood. Itami, feeling a little overwhelmed, stuck close to Rory, who seemed more interested in the shop's selection of weaponry than anything else.

They eventually found themselves in a section dedicated to magical rings, each one glittering with an alluring power. Rory, ever practical, was immediately drawn to their potential uses.

"What's the use of this ring?" she asked the imp that hovered beside her, gesturing towards a silver band set with a shimmering opal.

"That's an invisibility ring, Miss," the imp chirped, his voice surprisingly high-pitched. "Wearing it can keep you invisible for up to five minutes at a time. You can use it three times a day."

"Awesome!" Rory exclaimed, her crimson eyes gleaming with approval. "And what does this ring do?" she pointed to a simple iron band etched with strange runes.

"That's a Surviving Ring, Miss," the imp explained. "It'll help you survive in any environment, no matter how harsh."

Rory's grip tightened on her halberd. "Now that's what I call useful! Imagine surviving anything—scorching deserts, freezing tundras, even…the Abyss!"

"And this one?" Rory picked up a ring crafted from a dark, almost black metal.

"The Ring of Magic Increase," the imp chirped. "This is a rare item, Miss. This ring will double your MP for a limited time."

"Awesome!" Rory grinned, imagining the havoc she could unleash with double the magical power. She slipped the ring onto her finger, her eyes gleaming with mischievous glee.

As Rory admired her new acquisition, Itami noticed a small, unassuming ring tucked away on the corner of a shelf. It was made of a pale, almost translucent metal, and a single, perfect ruby was set into its band.

"What about this one?" Itami asked, holding it up to the light.

"Ah," the imp's voice took on a reverent tone. "That, sir, is the Immunity Ring. It is one of the most valuable items in our store."

"What does it do?" Itami asked, intrigued.

"By wearing this ring, sir, the wearer will be free from all kinds of diseases," the imp explained. "They will never get sick. It also enhances the physical capabilities of the wearer. They could live a long and healthy life just by using it."

Itami's gaze lingered on the ring for a moment. He thought of all the people back home who were battling illnesses, who struggled with their health… This ring could change their lives.

"Hm," he finally murmured, a thoughtful look on his face. "It's of no use to me, but…I know someone back home who I could give it to as a gift."

Itami tucked the Immunity Ring carefully into his pocket, a warm feeling spreading through his chest. Even in this strange, magical world, some things were universal—like the desire to help those you cared about.

.....

Lelei turned the amulet over in her hands, her fingers tracing the delicate runes etched into its surface. It was crafted from a smooth, polished stone that shimmered with an internal light, as if a miniature galaxy were trapped inside.

"It's a flying amulet, Miss," the imp explained, his tiny wings fluttering with excitement. "Wearing it allows you to fly through the sky!"

Lelei's eyebrows shot up in surprise. To think, such a small object could grant the power of flight! Back in Falmart, achieving such a feat would require complex spells, years of training, and a significant expenditure of mana.

"Remarkable," she murmured, her mind already racing with the possibilities. To be able to ascend to the sky at will, without the need for incantations or gestures…the magic of this world was truly astonishing!

"I need some magic books," Lelei declared, her thirst for knowledge momentarily eclipsing her fascination with the amulet. The imp pointed towards a spiral staircase tucked away in the corner of the shop.

"Then you must visit the second floor, Miss," the imp instructed. "That is where we keep our collection of magical tomes and scrolls."

Lelei followed the imp up the narrow staircase, her pulse quickening with anticipation. The second floor was even larger than the first, the air thick with the scent of parchment, leather, and ancient magic. Rows upon rows of bookshelves stretched as far as the eye could see, their shelves groaning under the weight of countless volumes.

Lelei's gaze swept over the titles, her mind struggling to comprehend the sheer volume of magical knowledge contained within these walls. She spotted a section dedicated to elemental magic, another to enchantment, another to summoning…it was a scholar's paradise!

As Lelei reached for a particularly intriguing tome bound in dragon hide, a glint of metal caught her eye. In the distance, displayed on a pedestal draped in velvet, stood a collection of magical staves. Each one pulsed with an aura of power that sent shivers down Lelei's spine.

She approached the display cautiously, drawn to a staff crafted from polished rosewood. It was taller than she was, its top capped with a crystal that thrummed with raw magical energy.

"This is a magic staff, Miss," the imp chirped, appearing at her side as if by magic. "Using this staff will increase your magical attacks several times over."

Lelei's fingers itched to grasp the staff, to feel its power flow through her. She could only imagine the spells she could cast, the enchantments she could weave, with a tool like this at her disposal.

.....

Itami's eyes widened as he spotted a familiar sight amidst the arcane clutter of Hoburns's magic shop—a pair of sleek, black headphones, nestled in a display case lined with red velvet. He picked them up, surprised by their weight. They were crafted from a material he didn't recognize, smooth and cool to the touch.

"Those, sir," the imp announced proudly, "are Lacrima Model wireless headphones. The very latest in magical audio technology!"

"Wireless?" Itami echoed, raising an eyebrow. He examined the headphones more closely, but couldn't see any obvious buttons or wires. "How do they work?"

The imp puffed out his chest. "They operate using a magical resonance frequency, sir. And they can store more than 10,000 songs in their internal magic database!"

Itami whistled. "That's…a lot of songs. How much do they cost?"

The imp named a price that made Itami's jaw drop. "30,000 Momonga?!"

The imp nodded cheerfully, seemingly oblivious to Itami's shock. "A bargain, sir, for such high-quality enchanted headphones!"

Itami winced. That was an astronomical amount of money, even for someone from his world. Still, the allure of thousands of songs at his fingertips, not to mention the sheer coolness factor of magic headphones, was incredibly tempting. Besides, the Sorcerous empire was footing the bill, right? So 30,000 Momonga was nothing

"Alright, alright," Itami said with a sigh, already feeling his resolve crumbling. "I'll take them."

The imp beamed. "Excellent choice, sir! You won't regret it!"

As they continued through the shop, Itami's eye was caught by a kaleidoscope of colors emanating from a nearby shelf. Hundreds of glass vials, each filled with a liquid of a different hue, shimmered under the enchanted lights.

"Wow, potions!" Itami exclaimed, feeling like he'd walked straight into an RPG game. He turned to the imp. "Can you tell me about these?"

"Of course, sir!" The imp launched into a detailed explanation of each potion and its effects. "The golden ones are healing potions. The purple ones are also healing but have a delayed effect. These are Baruffio's Brain Elixir—they increase the drinker's intelligence for a short time. And this," the imp pointed to a vial filled with a pearlescent liquid, "is a Beautification Potion! It's quite rare, and makes the drinker exceptionally beautiful."

The imp continued listing potion after potion, each one more fantastical than the last: Veritaserum Potions that forced honesty, Wideye Potions to prevent sleep, stamina potions, strength enhancers, even speed boosts…

Itami shook his head in amazement.

Tuka grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief and anticipation. In her hands, she held a bow unlike any other – crafted from polished yew wood and strung with shimmering spider silk, it thrummed with a latent magical energy that made the hairs on her arms stand on end. This was no ordinary weapon; this was a bow made for an elven huntress, a weapon of precision and devastating power.

She nocked an arrow, its shaft glowing faintly with emerald light – a clear indication of its enchanted nature. Across the room, mounted on a sturdy wooden frame, hung a standard target – a simple bullseye design, but one that would adequately test the bow's capabilities.

Inhaling a deep breath, Tuka drew back the string, her movements fluid and graceful, honed by years of practice in the forests of Falmart. The air around her crackled with magical energy, responding to the bow's power and her innate connection to nature. With a soft whisper, she released the string.

The arrow leaped forward with a sound like a whip cracking, a streak of emerald light that seemed to defy the laws of physics. There was no twang of the bowstring, no whistling sound as it cut through the air – just a sudden, silent blur followed by a resounding BOOM!

The target, previously pristine, was now half-obliterated. The arrow, having punched through the bullseye with devastating force, had embedded itself deep into the wall behind it, leaving a spiderweb of cracks radiating outward.

Tuka giggled, her earlier mischievous glint replaced by pure delight. "Great! This bow is great! I'll take it!"

The shopkeeper, perpetually surprised expression, merely sighed and shook his head. It seemed this wasn't the first time a demonstration had gone a bit…

....

About 2 hour later

After browsing through the magical shop's extensive collection, Itami and his companions approached the counter where Thale was already seated with the shopkeeper. Each of them carried their selected items, eager to complete their purchases.

"Have you finished your shopping?" the shopkeeper inquired, looking at the group.

Itami nodded, holding up his choices. "Yes, I'm getting these magic headphones, a magic ring and Gale-Force Reading Glasses. These glasses are amazing - they'll help me read much faster than normal."

"I've selected these magic rings," Rory announced, placing several ornate rings on the counter.

Lelei stepped forward with her arms full. "I would like to purchase these magic books, scrolls, and this wand," she said in her characteristic calm tone.

"And I want this Magic bow," Tuka said enthusiastically, presenting an elegantly crafted bow.

Thale's expression turned apologetic. "I'm sorry, Miss Tuka, but I can't sell you that bow."

"But why not?" Tuka asked, her enthusiasm deflating.

"In our nation, all weapon purchases require proper licensing," Thale explained gently. "To obtain a license, you need a National Identity Card, which is only issued to citizens. Since you're not a citizen..."

Itami placed a sympathetic hand on Tuka's shoulder. "Umm...This is correct. Weapon ownership without proper licensing is illegal here. We'll have to return the bow."

With visible disappointment, Tuka handed the bow to Imp, who carefully returned it to its display.

The shopkeeper then handed Thale a special piece of paper. As soon as she took it, magical text appeared, displaying the itemized prices and the total amount for their purchases.

Huh! What the hell! A rank Immunity ring! It is very valuable items. What are they? One day's shopping reduced the Governor's account balance! Governor will surely regret it. They spent an amount equivalent to the GDP of a small state in a single shopping spree. The Governor is definitely not going to be happy.

Thale, despite the wave of nausea threatening to overwhelm her, managed a smile as she handed the shopkeeper a small, nondescript card.

The shopkeeper, still visibly shaken by the sheer value of the items purchased, accepted the card with trembling hands. But Although he is so happy. He swiped it through a device that hummed with an unsettlingly organic sound. A moment later, a receipt materialized.

"Th-thank you for shopping at Hoburns's Famous Magic Shop," he stammered, barely able to meet Thale's gaze. "P-please, come again..."

Thale, her entourage of wide-eyed travelers, and one very smug apostle in tow, exited the shop, leaving a stunned silence in their wake.
