Chapter 1 - Prologue

The cold halls of HYDRA's secret facility deep in the mountains of Sokovia hummed with an eerie stillness. Its walls were stark, lined with advanced machinery that hissed and clicked with mechanical precision. A perpetual low hum filled the underground bunker, while the faint flicker of the dim fluorescent lights cast long shadows. The sound of boots echoed through the hallway as Dr. Erich Volkov, head of HYDRA's experimental division, walked briskly toward the heart of the facility.

HYDRA had long been in the business of experimentation, from their early days with the Red Skull to their later endeavors with super-soldiers like Bucky Barnes. But Project Genesis was different. It was more than just another effort to create a super-soldier; it was the culmination of decades of research. This was the beginning of a new kind of evolution, one that would change the future of human existence, should it succeed.

The room at the end of the hallway was cold, sterile, and filled with the faint scent of antiseptic. In the center of the room stood a large, cylindrical containment unit, cables stretching from its top to nearby monitors. Inside, a single, fragile human egg floated, suspended in a glowing liquid—a testament to HYDRA's mad ambition.

On one side of the room, Baron Strucker observed the scene quietly, his hands clasped behind his back. His eyes gleamed with an unnatural light, and a thin smile tugged at the corners of his lips. He turned as Dr. Volkov entered.

"Is everything ready, Doctor?" Strucker asked, his voice carrying a mixture of excitement and authority.

"Yes, Baron," Volkov replied, adjusting his glasses as he moved toward the terminal that controlled the containment unit. "The egg is stable. We've already integrated the DNA sequence from Subject WS-01 into the ovum. The results have been promising so far."

WS-01. The Winter Soldier. HYDRA's deadliest weapon, forged through years of brutal conditioning and experimentation. They had long recognized the value of his enhanced physiology, but combining it with the genetic potential of another... that was unprecedented.

But HYDRA had another asset, one that Strucker himself had acquired: Wanda Maximoff. She and her twin brother, Pietro, had been test subjects for HYDRA's experiments with the scepter. Neither they nor the world knew the full extent of what had been unlocked within them. Wanda's powers, particularly, had only begun to surface. The energy she emitted, her control over probability and reality itself—HYDRA had barely scratched the surface of what was possible.

The idea had struck Strucker months ago: why not use Wanda's DNA, fused with the enhanced abilities of Bucky Barnes, to create something truly unstoppable? Something born of both chaos and order. A living weapon with powers HYDRA had never imagined. But the fusion of their DNA alone was not enough. HYDRA needed to harness the energy source that had unlocked Wanda's powers in the first place.

Strucker's gaze drifted to a pedestal on the far side of the room, where a glass case stood. Inside the case, Loki's scepter rested, its blue gemstone shimmering in the dim light. Unbeknownst to HYDRA, that gem was not just any energy source—it was the Mind Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones, powerful artifacts that had shaped the very fabric of reality. To them, it was a tool, something they believed was a mere alien relic that unlocked the twins' latent potential. The scientists had no idea of the cosmic significance behind it.

"Bring the scepter closer," Strucker ordered, his voice cutting through the sterile air.

Two guards approached, carefully lifting the glass case and bringing it over to the containment unit. Strucker nodded to Volkov, who keyed in a series of commands. The cylindrical unit lowered, bringing the egg closer to the scepter. As it did, the blue light from the gem began to pulse, faintly at first, then brighter and brighter.

Suddenly, the entire room was bathed in a brilliant azure glow.

Dr. Volkov's hand trembled as he entered the final command, initiating the infusion of energy from the scepter into the developing embryo. The blue light enveloped the tiny egg, dancing across its surface like ethereal lightning. The energy from the scepter intertwined with the egg, altering its very essence. The embryo began to shift, its cells dividing and replicating faster than they should have. The DNA of Wanda Maximoff and Bucky Barnes began to mutate, intertwining with the energy from the Mind Stone.

The monitors beeped furiously, warning of fluctuations in the embryo's development. "It's unstable!" Volkov shouted, his fingers flying over the keyboard as he tried to stabilize the process. "We're seeing unexpected mutations. This... this wasn't part of the plan."

Strucker's eyes narrowed as he watched the swirling energy. "Nothing great ever comes without risk, Doctor. Let it run its course."

Volkov hesitated but obeyed. The energy from the scepter seemed to feed on the embryo, reshaping it. What was once human was becoming something more—something that transcended both man and machine.

The embryo pulsed with a golden light, and for a moment, it seemed as if the scepter itself was responding to the creation, as though recognizing something in the unborn being. The egg glowed brighter, brighter still, until it was almost too intense to look at. And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, the light vanished.

The room was silent, save for the faint whirring of machinery. Volkov stared at the monitors, his face pale but composed. "The egg... it's stabilized."

Strucker smiled. "Good."

Volkov let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "But Baron... the genetic changes... we have no idea what kind of being we've created. It could be unstable, and dangerous. There's no way to predict how the Mind Stone will have altered its DNA."

"That's exactly what we want," Strucker replied, stepping closer to the containment unit. He gazed at the now-stabilized embryo, the future HYDRA hoped to shape resting in this fragile form. "The child will be a weapon like no other. Its power will be unmatched. And its loyalty, unbreakable."

Volkov glanced nervously at the embryo, then at Strucker. " "And what of the surrogate? Have we found a suitable candidate?"

Strucker nodded. "Yes, we have. The Embryo will be grown in an environment that doesn't need to rely on another"

He turned, fixing Volkov with a steely gaze. "We need to make sure everything is in place. This child must be born healthy, and more importantly, powerful."

Volkov nodded, his mind already racing with calculations. "Of course, Baron. I will oversee the process personally."

As Strucker turned to leave, Volkov couldn't shake the unease settling in his chest. Whatever they had created, it was beyond anything they could control. But to defy Strucker, to defy HYDRA, was to sign his own death warrant.

In the dim, suffocating darkness of a small room near the lab, Wanda Maximoff stirred awake. Her body ached from days of isolation, her brother was nowhere to be found. She hissed, a sharp pain shooting through her abdomen as she shifted, a grim reminder that this time felt different—different from the other experiments. With a grimace, she sat up, lifting the hem of her shirt. Her breath caught in her throat as she spotted a fresh, unfamiliar mark etched into her lower abdomen, just above the line where her pants rested. It was no ordinary wound. Her hand trembled as she hovered over the mark, a strange, electric sensation flickering from deep within her. There was something... connecting. Something new was stirring, and it was tied to her very core.

But she did not know what.
