Chapter 17 - Goblins den (5)

The winding corridors of the Goblin Den stretched before Alypos like a labyrinth, shadows creeping along the walls as they moved deeper into the darkness. With Nibbles perched on his shoulder, he could feel the weight of their recent victories, but an undercurrent of tension hummed in the air—a warning that danger lurked nearby.

Alypos examined the dark crystal he had discovered, its surface shifting with an almost sentient glow. He couldn't shake the feeling that this object held secrets, potentially even knowledge that could be pivotal to his quest for strength. he tucked the crystal safely into the depths of his spatial ring for the time being. "Let's see what else this dungeon has to offer."

As they ventured further, the goblin chatter began to grow louder. Alypos motioned for silence, knowing that every sound could alert their enemies. They navigated through a narrow passageway, the air thickening with the smell of damp earth and something foul.

The corridor opened up into another large chamber, more spacious than the last, illuminated by the flickering light of several torches. Goblins crowded around a central fire, their raucous laughter echoing off the stone walls. This time, however, there were more than just lowly goblins—two hulking Goblin Chiefs stood guard, their muscles rippling beneath their ragged leather armor.

"I can't take them head-on; they're too strong," Alypos whispered, analyzing the scene. "We need a different approach."

Nibbles pointed at a stack of crates near the entrance, his tiny paws gesturing wildly. Alypos followed the squirrel's line of sight, formulating a plan. "You're right! If we can create a diversion, we can sneak past them or take them out one at a time."

Using his Water Manipulation, Alypos began to gather moisture from the air, forming small droplets that shimmered like stars. He directed them toward the stacked crates, creating a thin layer of ice that glistened ominously. "When I give the signal, run up there and knock those over, okay?" he instructed Nibbles, who nodded eagerly, his eyes wide with excitement.

Taking a deep breath, Alypos readied himself, feeling the coolness of the water energy surging within him. "Now!" he whispered, sending a concentrated stream of water crashing into the crates. The crates toppled over with a loud crash, splintering apart and spilling their contents onto the ground.

The goblins jumped, startled by the sudden noise. "What was that?" one of the Brutes growled, turning his beady eyes toward the commotion.

Alypos seized the opportunity, darting through the shadows, Nibbles scampering closely behind. The chaos allowed them to slip past the guards, unnoticed.

Once inside the chamber, they took cover behind a large stone pillar. Alypos peeked out, watching as the goblins rushed to investigate the noise. The distraction had worked perfectly.

"Let's keep moving," he whispered, leading the way deeper into the dungeon. The atmosphere shifted again, becoming heavier and more oppressive. The air was thick with the smell of decay, and an unsettling silence replaced the chaotic sounds of the goblins.

Suddenly, Alypos's senses tingled with awareness. "Nibbles, something's not right," he warned, glancing around for any signs of danger.

The squirrel's ears perked up, his tiny form quivering with anticipation. They cautiously advanced, navigating through narrow passageways lined with ancient carvings, the walls whispering secrets of past horrors.

The silence broke as Alypos stumbled into a chamber filled with remnants of a previous battle. The floor was littered with bones, both goblin and otherwise, a grim reminder of the dangers that lay ahead. In the center of the room stood an imposing figure—an Elder Goblin, its skin a sickly green, wearing robes adorned with talismans and amulets. It was chanting, its voice deep and guttural, summoning dark energies.

"Not again," Alypos muttered, recognizing the ritualistic patterns from his earlier encounters. "This one looks even stronger than the last."

Nibbles gestured frantically, mimicking the goblin's chanting with exaggerated gestures, as if mocking the Elder. Alypos couldn't help but smirk; the squirrel's antics provided a moment of levity amid the tension.

"We need to be smart about this. I can't afford to use any mana on Hell Viewing unless it's absolutely necessary. Let's see if we can disrupt the ritual."

Drawing on his water affinity, Alypos gathered moisture from the air, shaping it into a dense fog that enveloped the room, concealing them from the Elder Goblin's sight. The dark mist curled around him, lending an eerie atmosphere to the chamber.

With the Elder distracted, Alypos moved swiftly, creeping up toward the goblin. "Let's see how you handle this," he muttered, his voice low as he prepared to strike.

Just as he was about to engage, the Elder turned, its sharp eyes narrowing as it sensed his presence. "Intruder!" it bellowed, the chant interrupted, and the dark energy pulsed around it, forming a protective barrier.

Alypos reacted instinctively, thrusting his spear forward. The tip pierced the barrier, shattering it in a burst of energy. "Your magic won't save you!" he declared, charging forward with fierce determination.

The Elder Goblin retaliated, unleashing a wave of dark energy toward Alypos. He ducked just in time, rolling to the side as the blast exploded against the wall, sending debris flying.

"Think, Alypos," he muttered to himself, scanning the room for anything he could use. He spotted a low-hanging torch mounted on the wall. An idea sparked in his mind. "If I can divert its attention just long enough…"

With a swift motion, he directed a small stream of water toward the torch, extinguishing the flame and plunging the room into semi-darkness. The Elder Goblin paused, its eyes flickering as it searched for the source of the disturbance.

Now or never, Alypos thought, sprinting forward with calculated precision. He closed the distance quickly, thrusting his spear with practiced accuracy, aiming for the Elder's vulnerable neck.

The goblin's instincts kicked in, and it turned just in time to deflect the blow, but Alypos was ready. He pivoted, using the momentum to follow through with a swift kick to the Elder's knee. The creature stumbled back, howling in rage and pain.

"More finesse, less brute force," Alypos murmured, adjusting his stance. He needed to outmaneuver this creature, not overpower it.

The Elder retaliated with a series of dark energy blasts, and Alypos dodged each one, weaving between the pillars and debris and whenever he couldn't he conjured a shield. The echoes of the explosions resonated through the chamber, reminding him of the urgency of their situation. The longer this fight dragged on, the more dangerous it became.

"Stay focused," he whispered to himself, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. With the Elder momentarily distracted, he decided to bait it.

Alypos darted to the left, creating the illusion of vulnerability. The Elder, sensing an opportunity, unleashed another wave of dark energy, aiming for the spot where Alypos had just stood.

"Not today!" Alypos smirked, sliding to the side, using water just in time. As the energy blast collided with the stone wall, he quickly retaliated.

Gathering his focus, he thrust his spear upward, channeling water energy to enhance his strike. The water spiraled around the spear, creating a whirling vortex that enhanced its cutting power. He aimed for the Elder's exposed flank, striking with calculated precision.

The spear pierced through the goblin's defenses, landing a solid blow. The Elder staggered back, its chanting faltering, a mixture of surprise and fury in its eyes.

"That's it," Alypos said, feeling a sense of triumph surge within him. "Now for the finish."

He charged in again, this time maintaining a cold, calculated demeanor. With swift movements, he delivered a flurry of strikes, each one carefully aimed to exploit the Elder's weaknesses and its injured side.

The goblin retaliated, but Alypos had anticipated its moves, slipping under its strikes and countering with a kick that sent the Elder crashing to the ground.

In one final, determined thrust, he plunged the spear deep into the Elder's chest. The creature let out a gurgling cry before collapsing, lifeless, onto the stone floor.

"Victory," Alypos breathed, exhilaration coursing through him.

He stood over the fallen goblin, catching his breath and feeling the weight of the moment. Just then, Nibbles, still perched on his shoulder, squeaked in excitement, doing a little jig to celebrate their victory. Alypos couldn't help but let a small smile escape his lips at the sight.

"Alright, little buddy. Let's see what treasures this Elder holds," he said, shifting his focus back to the task at hand.
