Chapter 160 - Awakening

POV: Jenna

The creature stepped fully into the flickering light of the bunker, its twisted form illuminated in horrifying detail. Its body was humanoid but stretched unnaturally, with glowing veins that pulsed in time with the tremors. Its eyes, if they could even be called that, glowed with the same eerie light as the pit.

"Okay," Jenna said, raising her crowbar. "I take it back. I totally want to leave now."

Her zombie gang snarled, their glowing eyes locking onto the creature. Jenna glanced at them, her grip tightening on her weapon. "You guys with me? Because I'm gonna need some serious backup for this one."

---

POV: Rick

Rick's heart pounded as more creatures emerged from the shadows, each one more grotesque than the last. Their movements were jerky but deliberate, their glowing eyes locked onto the group.

"Form up!" Rick shouted, raising his knife. "Don't let them separate us!"

Sarah moved to his side, her crowbar ready. "What the hell are these things?"

Rick didn't answer. His focus was on the nearest creature, its elongated limbs reaching for him with unsettling precision. He dodged the attack, slashing at its glowing chest. The creature let out a high-pitched shriek, staggering back but not falling.

"They're tougher than they look," Rick muttered, his jaw tightening.

---

POV: Jenna

Jenna swung her crowbar at the nearest creature, the impact sending a jolt up her arms. The creature barely flinched, its glowing veins pulsing brighter as it turned its attention to her.

"Of course you're not easy to kill," Jenna muttered, dodging another swipe. "Why would you be?"

Her zombie gang lunged at the creature, their snarls echoing in the confined space. Jenna took the opening, swinging her crowbar with all her strength. This time, the creature staggered, its glowing veins dimming slightly.

"That's it, team!" Jenna shouted. "Keep it up!"

---

POV: Kane

Deep beneath the bunker, the stone pulsed with energy, its light filling the cavern with a blinding glow. The creatures it had awakened surged upward, their movements guided by the stone's will.

Kane's voice echoed faintly through the cavern, a sinister whisper carried by the energy. "The time has come. The balance will shift."

---

POV: Carl

Carl's sword cut through one of the creatures, the blade glowing faintly as it severed the creature's glowing veins. The creature let out a guttural roar before collapsing, its body crumbling into ash.

"They can be killed," Carl said sharply, his eyes narrowing. "Aim for the veins."

Rick nodded, slashing at another creature's chest. "Got it!"

Jenna, still dodging attacks, glanced at Carl. "Oh sure, now you tell me! I've been hitting everything but the veins!"

Carl didn't respond, his focus on the next attacker. Jenna groaned, raising her crowbar again. "Fine. Veins it is."

---

POV: Rick

The group fought with everything they had, their weapons flashing in the dim light. Rick's muscles burned, his knife sinking into another creature's chest. The glow in its veins dimmed before it crumbled to ash, but more creatures were emerging from the pit.

"We can't hold this position!" Rick shouted, his voice hoarse. "There's too many of them!"

"We have to!" Carl snapped, his sword cutting down another attacker. "If we don't stop them here, they'll overrun the surface!"

Rick gritted his teeth, his focus shifting to the pit. The glow was intensifying, the tremors growing stronger. Whatever was coming, it was worse than these creatures.

---

POV: Jenna

Jenna's arms ached as she swung her crowbar at another creature, her zombie gang snarling and snapping beside her. She glanced at the pit, her stomach twisting. "Uh, guys? I think we've got a bigger problem."

The light from the pit flared, blinding her for a moment. When it dimmed, she could see a massive shape emerging from the depths. It was larger than the other creatures, its body glowing like molten lava.

"Oh, come on!" Jenna shouted, throwing her hands in the air. "This is just getting ridiculous!"

---

POV: Carl

Carl stepped in front of Jenna, his sword raised as the massive creature emerged from the pit. Its glowing veins pulsed with an almost hypnotic rhythm, and its roar shook the walls of the bunker.

"Stay behind me," Carl said firmly, his eyes locked on the creature.

Jenna rolled her eyes. "Yeah, because that's worked out so well for us so far."

"Jenna," Carl said, his voice sharp. "Don't argue."

Jenna sighed, gripping her crowbar tightly. "Fine. But if we die, I'm haunting you."

---

POV: Rick

Rick rallied the group, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Focus on the veins! It's our only chance!"

The massive creature roared again, its glowing eyes locking onto the group. Rick took a deep breath, his grip on his knife tightening. "This is it. We take it down, or we don't get out of here."

---

POV: Jenna

Jenna squared her shoulders, ignoring the exhaustion weighing her down. She glanced at her zombie gang, who were growling and snapping at the massive creature. "Alright, guys," she said softly. "Time to go all out."

She activated her portal, the glowing void opening behind the creature. It wasn't as strong as she wanted it to be, but it was enough to disrupt its movements. The creature staggered, its glowing veins flickering.

"Now!" Jenna shouted. "Hit it with everything you've got!"

---

POV: Carl

Carl surged forward, his sword glowing faintly as he aimed for the creature's chest. His blade sank into the largest vein, and the creature let out an ear-splitting roar. The glow in its veins began to dim, its massive body trembling as it collapsed.

Carl stepped back, his chest heaving. "It's done."

---

POV: Jenna

Jenna dropped to the ground, her portal flickering and closing. She let out a shaky laugh, her hands trembling. "We're alive," she muttered. "We actually did it."

Her zombie gang gathered around her, their glowing eyes fixed on the ashes of the creature. Jenna grinned weakly. "Good job, team. You're all getting head pats later."

Carl helped her to her feet, his grip steady. "We need to move. The stone's still active."

"Great," Jenna muttered, leaning on him. "No rest for the wicked, huh?"

---

POV: Kane

The stone pulsed one final time, its light dimming. But the energy it had released lingered, spreading through the earth like a living thing. Kane's voice echoed faintly in the darkness. "This is only the beginning."
