POV: Rick
The forest had finally settled into an uneasy stillness, a calm that felt unnatural after the chaotic battle. Rick looked around at the survivors, their faces a mixture of exhaustion and grim determination. They'd survived one of the most dangerous encounters of their lives, and yet, somehow, the future felt even more uncertain.
Rick's eyes drifted to Kane, who stood a few feet away, his expression as unreadable as ever. The mysterious man had proven useful, but his knowledge of the mutation and the core left Rick with a gnawing feeling. If Kane knew more about what was happening, why wasn't he sharing?
"What now?" Sarah asked, breaking Rick's thoughts. Her gaze was as tired as he felt, but she looked at him with a glint of resolve. They needed answers, direction, something to hold onto after everything they'd been through.
"We move forward," Rick replied, his voice steady. "But we stay alert. Kane's helped us, but he's keeping things back, things we need to know."
Sarah nodded, her expression turning pensive as she looked over at the zombies—Jenna, Carl, and their gang. Watching them fight alongside the humans had been surreal, but it had also shown Rick just how different this new world was. Boundaries, definitions—everything was changing. They'd have to adapt, or they wouldn't survive.

POV: Sarah
The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows across the forest as they prepared to move out. Sarah glanced at Jenna, wondering if the zombie could feel the strain of their journey as much as the humans did. Did zombies get tired? Did they feel anything at all?
It was strange to consider Jenna an ally, but Sarah couldn't deny the facts. Jenna and her zombie gang had saved them from the mutated forest, and Carl had fought alongside them with a fierce determination she'd rarely seen in any survivor. In a world where everything was twisted, maybe alliances didn't need to make sense.
Still, Sarah wasn't entirely sure what Jenna and Carl wanted out of this partnership. They were intelligent, but their goals were still a mystery.
"So, Jenna…" Sarah ventured, hesitant but curious. "What's your plan now?"
Jenna raised an eyebrow, her expression caught somewhere between amusement and exasperation. "Plan? I was thinking of just… not dying. Seems to be working so far."
Carl, standing beside Jenna, rolled his eyes. "What she means is that we're looking for answers too. This mutation isn't just affecting humans. It's spreading everywhere. And if we want to survive, we have to know what we're dealing with."
Sarah considered this, nodding slowly. "Then I guess we're after the same thing."
Jenna shrugged. "Looks like it. Lucky for you, we're on your side—at least for now."

POV: Kane
Kane observed the exchange with interest, his mind already turning to the next steps. The core had been destroyed, but that was only one piece of the puzzle. There were more out there—more mutated zones, more sources of the infection. The forest they'd just battled through was one of many.
He knew he needed to keep the group close, at least for now. The humans had their own resources and knowledge, and the intelligent zombies offered strength that couldn't be ignored. But he also knew that he couldn't trust them entirely. No one was truly safe in this world.
"We'll need supplies if we're going to move forward," he said, turning to the group. "There's an old military base not far from here. It's been abandoned for months, but it might have some of the resources we need."
Rick's eyes narrowed. "A military base? You're just mentioning this now?"
Kane shrugged, unbothered by Rick's suspicion. "We didn't have time for detours before. But now that we've got a better idea of what we're facing, it's worth the risk."
Jenna snorted. "You seem awfully calm for someone who just survived a forest full of killer plants."
Kane met her gaze, his expression unreadable. "I've seen worse."
There was a brief, tense silence, each person processing what lay ahead. But in the end, they all understood one thing: they had no choice but to push forward.
---
POV: Carl
As they set out toward the military base, Carl couldn't shake the feeling that they were heading straight into a trap. The forest's mutations had been bad enough, but a military base could mean encounters with other survivors, or worse—other groups with their own agendas.
"Keep close," he told Jenna, his voice low. "I don't trust this guy, Kane. He's got too much knowledge for someone 'just passing through.'"
Jenna gave him a half-smile. "Relax, Carl. If he tries anything, we can handle him."
Carl nodded but kept his guard up as they continued through the forest. In this new world, trust was a luxury he couldn't afford. Even Jenna—despite their strange bond—was an unknown factor. But for now, they shared a common goal.
As the group continued their journey, the military base looming on the horizon, Carl prepared himself for whatever challenges lay ahead. If there were answers waiting, they'd have to be ready for them.
