Chapter 23 - Calypso Bad Sensei

I start walking through the corridors, the maids always make way and bow when I pass by. At first it was strange, but now it's common. I told the maids to inform all the others that they are prohibited from entering my room outside of cleaning hours, so I avoid deaths since Elena complained about it.

I arrive at Calypso's quarters, I knock on the door and wait. The door soon opens, and I see Calypso sitting at a table writing some things.

"Good evening, Your Majesty. I'm just writing a letter to a colleague, she will be coming to the castle soon. Shall we start the lesson? The sooner the better, I believe."

"Yes, I hope your lesson is as good as Freya's." When I say this, the flames of competitiveness burn in her eyes. I noticed that Calypso and Freya have a certain rivalry.

"Let's start by talking about the origin of magic. Magic did not exist in our world at the beginning, it is something that was given to us by the Primordial Goddess. In your case, you will learn more about religion from someone else, so I'll skip that part."

When she talks about skipping something that seems important, it shows how her teaching style is different from Freya's.

"The magic that began to spread across the planet totally modified the ecosystem. The first generations of the various races in this world did not undergo many changes, but over future generations they were changing until they became what they are today."

"Magic has become the basis of life in this world. Everything, even a grain of sand, possesses magic. It has become the essence of the existence of most beings and things. Naturally, there is nothing in this world that does not possess at least a drop of magic."

"...Wait a moment, Your Majesty..." Calypso turns and begins to look through the books.

"Haaa..." I sigh. I notice that Calypso is not well organized, while she looks through the book, I notice how messy her room is, while Freya's room was perfectly organized.

They are like oil and water, or perhaps I should say fire and ice.

"Returning to the lesson... magic in our world has taken many divergent paths, having many variations and types that are still unknown today. Each race has different affinities, generating a certain balance... Demons, for example, are good at magic, having high mana reserves."

"Of course, there are some beings that break this balance of affinities. These beings are the Goddesses, the Heroes, and the Demon Kings. In your case, Your Majesty, you have all attributes elevated, as well as magical affinity with any element."

"Naturally, certain elements have advantages over others, so diversification is an important factor in combat. This doesn't mean you can't learn magic outside of the elements you have an affinity for."

"However, if you don't have an affinity, the magic will be weaker. Another case is that even if you have multiple affinities, some of the affinities will be stronger. In my case, for example, I have the greatest affinity with fire magic, although I have affinity with many other elements."

"Learning spells of your affinity is easier, and they will naturally be stronger. Several races have specific affinities that accompany them, such as elves who are very good at wind, earth, and wood magic, as well as variants of these magics."

"I won't mention all the elements and their variants because there are thousands. I'll mention the normal elements, some strong variants, and the main elements as well as the special ones. Is that okay with you, Your Majesty?"

"Yes, I think that's good enough." I can learn the rest on my own. Calypso clearly doesn't have a knack for being a teacher.

"I will list the elements, and provide some general explanations. Pay attention to the fact that although they are called 'Elements', not all of them are elements of nature."

Normal Elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Magma, Ice, Lightning, Gravity, Carbonization, Ether, Mental Control, Fog, Sound, Crystals, Dreams, Magnetism, Snow, Roots, Wood, Iron, Mysticism.

Variant Elements: Rain, Storm, Stars, Nullity, Shadows, Cremation, Glacial Cold, Solar Light, Ashes, Invasion, Portal, Blood, Ore, Particle, Moon, Poison, Heat, Flowers, Nature.

Main Elements: Primordial Fire, Primordial Water, Primordial Earth, Primordial Wind.

Special Elements: Darkness, Light, Sacred, Corrupted Sacred, Time, Void, Dimension, Creation, Space, Life, Death, Anti-Life, Infinity, Destruction, Rupture, Sky, Chaos.

"I won't explain all of them, just the Special ones, okay Your Majesty?"

"...Calypso...be honest, you didn't have anything prepared for this lesson, did you?" I say in an accusatory tone.

"T-That's... I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I really didn't expect Your Majesty to want to learn so soon. I thought you would just want to know more about magic a few months from now," she bows apologetically.

Honestly, this magic lesson is pretty... bad, there's no other word for it. Her explanations are disjointed and something is missing. Later, I'll have to go learn about magic on my own. I don't want to ruin Calypso's reputation by saying she doesn't know how to teach at all.

"Continue, I'll deal with this later..." Afterward, I'll read a textbook instead of expecting much from Calypso. I don't know why Kaelith recommended learning magic from Calypso, she seems to have no idea how to be a teacher.

"O-Okay, Your Majesty..." She says somewhat discouraged, noticing that I clearly don't consider her a good teacher.

'Point for Freya.' This time, Freya won.

"I will explain then. Let's start with the Darkness Element that Your Majesty used."

Darkness: One of the elements that make up the world, manipulating darkness at will is an element with a wide range of possibilities, being the opposite of light, darkness is known as the element that devours everything.

Light: A natural element opposite to darkness, being malleable and fast, an element with high destructive power, known as one of the fastest elements, being extremely strong against other natural elements.

Sacred: A sacred element, very efficient against elemental magic and darkness magic. The sacred element is mainly used for healing, generating barriers, and applying buffs.

Corrupted Sacred: Used by demons chosen by their god, it is the opposite of the sacred, a destructive element, mainly used to destroy defensive formations, being very good at debuff magic and curses.

Time: An element that manipulates the forces that govern the universe, altering the flow of time to one's advantage, whether accelerating, decelerating, stopping or erasing time, having many different and diverse uses, being considered the fastest movement magic with movements in 0 seconds, having very few users.

Void: The void element, capable of connecting to the void, manifesting it and thus sending everything that is hit into the void, being a magic considered impossible to block.

Dimension: The dimensional element allows the user to access dimensions in an unnatural way, being able to use them for attack, defense and movement, jumping between existing dimensions or creating pocket dimensions.

Creation: An element said to be of the Primordial Goddess, being the only one who has used this element, with the ability to create anything from nothing, forming things from scratch without any use of any external energy to help. Its use is so complex and difficult that no one has been able to understand and use this element.

Space: The spatial element allows one to shape, bend or destroy space, being able to generate devastating attacks over very wide areas. The strength depends on the user's spatial knowledge.

Life: Magic of life, capable of creating life from nothing, an element used only by the Primordial Goddess, being too complex to be understood by anyone else, thus being the only user the Primordial Goddess.

Death: A destructive element, focused on reducing life to nothing, does not work on non-living things, but is capable of decimating lives en masse.

Anti-Life: A dark element used mainly by the Goddess of the Abyss, considered an abyssal element that can only be found within the abyss, it is a cataclysmic element capable of eliminating life regardless of conditions, surpassing even immortality abilities.

Infinity: A conceptual element that is based on the infinite scale that prevents something from reaching 0, always being unattainable, whether reducing or increasing, and used mainly in alchemy.

Destruction: An element that focuses entirely on destroying, ignoring most defenses, focusing on destroying single targets or large areas.

Rupture: An abyssal element used by the Goddess of the Abyss, she is one of the few recorded bearers. This element focuses on the ability to break and crack anything, whether that's space, time, or reality, everything can be ruptured in the face of Rupture.

Sky: A pure element, used mainly by the Goddess of Humans, being an element with almost unknown uses, with few recorded uses, with its main uses shown to be sealing and area attacks based on natural and unnatural forces.

Chaos: A unique element used mainly by the known entity as the Demon King. It is considered one of the most powerful elements, "everything arose from chaos and will return to it." Using this principle, chaotic magic breaks universal laws, ignoring any form of defense or resistance, being able to destroy anything in existence.

So Calypso finishes her explanation.

"Wow... it was better than I expected." This explanation finally improved. Some of these special elements are incredible.

"Remember, Your Majesty, although you as the Demon King and daughter of the Abyss have affinity with all existing elements, that doesn't mean you can use them all. You can only use spells that you can handle or comprehend, so learning certain spells will be challenging or even impossible."

"Yes, yes, I understand... I can use them all..." I think about it. I have to learn some of these. Imagine me using Chaos magic or Anti-Life magic, even Rupture magic seems incredible. Time magic also seems insane, not even light speed compares to 0-second time movements.

My tail moves excitedly with enthusiasm.

"Now I will teach Your Majesty the basic principle for magical comprehension... I may have disappointed you in my explanation of the history of magic, but I can assert that in magical comprehension I am one of the best in the castle," she says with a smile.

I imagine that this may be the reason why Kaelith sent me to Calypso.
