Chapter 1 - Prologue: Rapier and Magic

The world of Eldoria, a realm where magic reigns supreme over weapons, it is home to humans, elves, dwarves, and gnomes. However, humans, in their arrogance, treated the other races as inferior, igniting a brutal war.

The battle waged on for a total of two years, that was until an ancient being known as the God of Calamity came into the world of Eldoria and The God of Calamity unleashed devastation, slaughtering both sides and creating monstrous beings known as Demons.

Eldoria was on the brink of destruction and something needed to be done to stop the God of Calamity, that was until six mighty mages appeared and banded together and ultimately defeated the God of Calamity within hours.

After the God of Calamity was sealed away by the six mages everyone looked up to the mages. In the aftermath, the leaders of each race realized that continued conflict would only bring further destruction. A peace treaty was signed, though tensions still simmered beneath the surface. While some embraced the unity, many remained distrustful of other races.

The mighty mages smiled as the treaty was created and signed, and thus the mighty mages casted a barrier that surrounds the entire world from evil, everyone looks up to them and gave the strong mages a title, a name that they can be called by, a Grand Mage.

To ascend to the ranks of the Grand Mages, one had to meet strict requirements:

1. Graduate from Arcania with a total of 10000 points.

2. Be recognized by one of the Grand Mages.

3. Be able to use A tier magic.

4. Be able to master one element.

5. Be able to create your own magic spell.

The requirements to be a Grand Mage is tough, but those were the rules made by the Grand Mages, after the war ended humanity was starting to rebuild, construct and even make peace with other races.

As humanity grew larger and larger, academy's were being constructed, these academy's are there to teach new mages who want to be a Grand Mage. Thus did a new adventure start for a boy named Aether, a child who dreams to become a Grand Mage just like the stories told!

This is where the story of Aether begins—a boy with dreams of becoming a Grand Mage, just like the heroes of legend.

Aether and his childhood friend, Lyria, grew up together in foster care after being abandoned by their families. When Aether and Lyria met, they played with each other and created a strong bonds, sharing dreams of becoming powerful mages, at the age of 8, Lyria was able to perform ice magic.

Mages around age 14 usually are able to start casting magic, but Lyria was able to do so at a young age, Aether was amazed but to his ability, he couldn't cast magic yet, Lyria and Aether played around with each other until both of them would attend the same magic academy, Arcania the academy to train new mages to rise up and become a Grand Mage.

When they both were at the age of 12, Lyria and Aether enrolled for school, Lyria was ahead of every single student, the Professors of the school recognized Lyria so much, she was the most popular girl in school, she was also considered the most powerful, she was able to use her ice magic to perfection and eventually she created a new ice ability, she called it Eternal Winter.

Eternal Winter was a spell that formed a large ice blade and with a single cut, it could freeze a entire enemy's body into a popsicle, it was able to shoot out beams of ice and form icicles to throw at enemies, Eternal Winter was considered her strongest magic ability and it was recognized in the entire school.

With all the commotion, one of the Grand Mages took notice of Lyria, and the Ice Grand Mage requested her to be the next Grand Mage, after being in school for two years as an Arcania student, Lyria was taken to a new school, a school where the Grand Mages would be taking you in and training you to take their place...

Aether unfortunately was sadden by the fact that Lyria was being taken away from his grasp, as Aether watched Lyria walk off towards a new school, Lyria teared up, she wanted to be with Aether forever, but unfortunately had to ascend a new building, but Aether sparked a new hope in her, he promised to Lyria that he would join her and be by her side again, and that he would train and study hard just for her.

Lyria smiled and before she left, she handed Aether something, it was a weird object but she called it a Focus, she didn't explain what it does but none the less, it was a gift from Lyria and Aether gripped onto it tight and a single tear dropped onto the Focus.

Lyria hugged Aether, and Aether hugged back, Lyria whispered in Aether's ears "I'll be by your side, no matter what! I'll be watching you from the tower" Lyria said as she stopped hugging him and left with a smile.

After she was gone, Aether looked down and clenched his fist, "Professor...I want you to train me! To become the strongest mage! No matter how long it takes! No matter how brutal the training is! I want to be with Lyria!" he declared, his voice trembling with emotion.

"You got it Aether, but don't say I didn't warn you on how hard training will be. Let's go, Lyria will be waiting for you so don't keep her waiting for eternity." Professor Lysander said as he smiled as Aether comforting him.

4 years later...

Lyria has grown to become a fine woman, she has the title of the Ice Grand Mage, and Aether still attending Arcania has a new goal, he is to grow strong and earn enough points to finally come be by his childhood friends side, but with the new group of mages coming into the school and Aether being recognized as one of the weakest and a outcast of the school, this year may be a tough one for him...

Lyria watches from her room looking out at her window, she smiles knowing how hard Aether is training, one of her assistant's walks in her room, "Lady Lyria, it's time for the meeting.".

Lyria turned to look at her assistant, "Please tell the other Grand Mages I'll be right there, Rachel." Lyria said with a smile.

Rachel nodded "Understood lady Lyria, and how's the boy?" Rachel asked out of curiosity.

Lyria looked back out at her window "He's doing just fine, I can't wait to see him again."

Meanwhile Aether is in a dungeon alone fighting giant beast alone, he was facing a minotaur a beast with very strong horns, the minotaur beast uses a giant cleaver and has tough skin.

The minotaur kicked Aether in the stomach launching him backwards, Aether crashed into a wall but he stabbed his rapier on the ground and pulled himself up with it.

"I won't lose! I will see Lyria again! NO MATTER WHAT!" Aether yelled and his infused a magic spell into his Focus and ran towards the minotaur with the intent to kill it in a single blow.

"I may not be able to use magic like everyone else! But Lyria's gift allows me to do so! TAKE THIS! BLAZING BEAM!" Aether yelled as he leaped into the air, the Focus glowed red with a fiery glow and his sword radiates a red aura, he unleashed the spell from his rapier and launched a fiery sonic wave at the minotaur, the minotaur was too slow and as the minotaur looked at the sonic wave coming towards it, it was instantly cut in half by the wave.

The minotaur split in half, and the minotaur faded away like ash and the only thing remained was his horn. Aether landed on his feet and was catching his breathe, after a few minutes he stood back up and collected the minotaur's horn that had dropped on the ground as the beast faded away.

Aether looked up into the ceiling and reached his hand out towards the ceiling "I'm coming for you Lyria! Just you wait, this year I promise!" Aether said as he clenched his hand and smiled with hope.
