Chapter 10: Loss
The sun beat down on the school field as our Outdoor Powers class began. Professor Everett, a seasoned instructor, demonstrated advanced techniques for harnessing elemental energies.
Lucas, ever vigilant, stuck close to me, his eyes scanning the perimeter.
Suddenly, a dark figure emerged from the treeline.
"Kael's operative," Emily whispered, her voice urgent.
The Dark Six agent, clad in black, unleashed a devastating blast of energy.
"Get down!" Josh shouted.
Lucas pushed me aside, taking the brunt of the attack.
"No!" I screamed, as Lucas crumpled to the ground.
Rage consumed me. My chaos magic surged, begging to be unleashed.
Emily grasped my arm, her eyes pleading. "Tyler, don't! You'll harm everyone!"
I trembled, torn between vengeance and self-control.
The teachers sprang into action. Professor Everett summoned a fierce gust of wind, while Mrs. Emits conjured a protective barrier.
Amanda and Billy joined the fray, their powers blending in perfect harmony.
Josh's darkness manipulation absorbed the Dark Six agent's attacks.
Together, the teachers and students forced the operative to retreat.
As the dust settled, I rushed to Lucas's side.
He smiled weakly. "Protect...yourself, Tyler..."
With those final words, Lucas's eyes closed, his body still.
Professor Everett's expression turned grim. "Why did they target Tyler specifically? What's their endgame?"
Mrs. Emits's eyes narrowed. "We'll investigate. But for now, let's ensure our students' safety."
Emily's gentle touch brought me back to reality.
"We'll get through this, Tyler," she promised.
As the academy mourned Lucas's loss, I struggled to come to terms with the brutality.
The Dark Six's attack left me with more questions than answers.
But one thing was certain: I would protect my friends at all costs.
