Lily's POV
When I saw how Emma looked, I kinda did an itsy bitsy leap of joy in me.
She came in a ride I had been on twice. I always loved the car. I loved it better when Chase rode me in it.
"Come out." I shoved her out. Her eyes were red and swollen and I could tell she was seeing in 360 pixels.
I rummaged through the car for the rest of her stuff.
Chase's signature cologne was all over the car. It was so strong.
I smelled it in my sheets weeks after…
I had just stumbled on something when Emma dragged me out, running out of the lot like Chase was after her.
It was a jewelry box, a female jewelry box.
It was so fucking fancy, frosty and shiny. The box had stone cuts that sent light straight into my eye.
It was somewhere below the driver seat. I didn't think Enaa saw it yet.
I took the box, but Emma chose that exact moment to drag me, so it fell on the floor somewhere.
I thought I'd be able to go back to get it, but Emma needed me.
"Emma, what's going on?" I had been dying of curiosity for hours, itching to know what was up.
We'd had about four classes, there was one left to go till lunch break.
"We've come thus far." She replied. "Don't you think we could do one more class before you wring my history out of me?"
"Curiosity is killing this cat." I replied, pointing to my vajayjay, then to myself.
She laughed hard, harder than usual. I guess it's cause she wanted Chase to see that she could have fun, live a good life and be happy without him.
I saw through Emma.
She was trying too hard to concentrate while it did seem like she was doing that, Emma was lost, gone.
"You don't have to do this alone." I sang in her ears.
She smiled sadly and tugged at my dark curls like she always did. Something about my curls fascinated Emma. If we were ever together, she would untangle and even almost straighten them out.
"Thank you." She said back, mimicking my tone.
Time passed slowly cause I was dying of anticipation, but soon, it was time for lunch break.
I wanted to go back to the lot to grab the box that fell out of my hand when Emma dragged me.
"Hey, I'll be with you in a minute." I excused myself as soon as the alarm went off for lunch break.
I walked slowly and composed at first.
I turned back to see Emma was already lost in thought. That was good for me.
As soon as I got out of sight, I bolted off.
I ran as fast as I could, mindful of people and cameras.
Students weren't really allowed in the lot during school hours, but that was nothing a few bills couldn't fix.
I was soon there, and bending over to figure out where exactly I threw it.
I searched all around, but I couldn't find it.
I bit my cheeks in annoyance, till I tasted blood.
Angry and bitter, I went back in.
I stopped at the bathroom to fix my face.
Sweat had beaded all over my forehead and my hair was a little too messy, with that I walked out of the bathroom, ready to hear what Emma had for me.
On my way out, I heard raised voices from the men's bathroom.
More interestingly, I think I heard Gray's.
"The fuck do you mean 'stop', man?" I heard him scream.
"I mean, quit it!" Chase screamed. "Just stop. If you have no use for all that money, give it to charity or something!" Chase added, and I heard something crash.
"You don't tell me what to do with my family." Gray said, snidely. "I don't tell you what to do with yours." I heard Chase rush at him and both of them collided against the door I was leaning on.
"Umph." I whimpered, unconsciously.
"Someone's there?"
"Who's there?"
I had the attention of both of them and that was not something I wanted.
Gray and I were currently in a funny place.
He was supposed to be my redemption. My last attempt to convince myself that I like boys. Cause, I mean, I liked my time with Chase.
But Gray, Gray was a fucking cheat. I knew it, he knew that I did. I hoped for the longest time that it never became public knowledge, and we continued living in our fake peaceful bubble.
Maybe we'd have had a chance at prom King and Queen.
When Emma said it out loud while confronting him, that was the deal breaker for me.
The whole school knew about it, and once again, I was Lily the loser.
I was really bitter about it, but I had a bigger game plan. When Jessica came along, it kinda just solidified the whole thing.
I was gonna get my pound of flesh back, Jessica inclusive.
I've had to have my eyes and ears everywhere.
It also was costing me money, which is why I agreed to keep Chase's rendezvous with Jessica at the club a secret.
More than half of the first pay went into paying the security man to turn off the camera's in the class days ago.
Chase had gotten employment for Rudd somewhere else with his dad's influence, I heard about it, and I knew Rudd would definitely want to have one last ride with her.
I slipped the pill in Jessica's drink, I told him I did, I organized it all, and Rudd was only too grateful.
"I'll call you." I heard Chase's voice.
"Don't!" Gray replied, and they walked off.
I came out of the women's bathroom where I'd been hiding and went into the dining hall, armed with more info.
I heard Emma sobbing, loud enough to be heard from all corners of the hall.
I went closer and saw that there was already a sizable crowd forming, and some had their phones in hand.
Gray was in a corner, expressionless. I hope he and Chase never make up.
