School had already dismissed, and yet, there was still no sign of Magnus. I couldn't believe it. My first day of school, and he didn't even bother to show up. Anger bubbled up inside me, mixing with a sharp sting of hurt, but I pushed it aside, refusing to dwell on it for too long. Right now, my biggest problem was waiting for Regan, who was still chatting away with those two girls. It seemed like they wouldn't let him breathe, and honestly, I was getting tired of waiting—and super hungry.

I watched them from a distance, the two girls giggling and flipping their hair every time Regan said something. He, of course, lapped up the attention, grinning like a fool. They had been talking for nearly twenty minutes now, and my stomach was starting to grumble.
