The morning light filtered into my room as I stirred awake, hearing a knock at the door. Fergus's voice sounded from the other side, waiting to be let in. Groggily, I called for him to enter, and he stepped in with his usual composed demeanor.
"I've dropped Owen and Miss Aria at school," he informed me, his tone a bit heavier than usual. "I didn't want to wake you since you were up so late last night. There's something you should know, though: Damon was found dead early this morning."
My eyes narrowed. "Dead?"
Fergus nodded solemnly. "According to CCTV footage, he used his one remaining hand to end his own life. The pain must have been too much to bear."
I took a moment, processing the twisted end of the man who'd dared harm Aria. "Send his body to his father," I ordered, my voice cold. "Attach a note: 'This is what happens to those who assault innocents and flee from justice.'"
